Enough! The no profanity rule stands. |

I've been posting DUFU threads for years and am not one to bellyache ever. On election night I had a thread pulled because I used only one asterisk instead of three on quoted F words even though that was the practice before. I didn't complain. I accepted that due to the proliferation of the F words QUOTED in that thread, maybe it was a bit too much and promised to use three asterisks in the future.
So today I posted what I thought was a really fascinating DUFU reaction to the Jonathan Gruber video and it had a grand total of ONE F word which I made sure to use THREE asterisks. So what happened? The entire thread got pulled. WHY? I have absolutely no idea but if someone knows please let me know.
Anyway that DUFU edition can be found at the DUmmie FUnnes at: DUmmies Discombobulated by Jonathan Gruber Video
Great!
What is GeronL’s PayPal account number?
I'm not taking it personal. I just wanted clarification of the rules. So now that I know that the F word should be replaced with "[expletive deleted]" that is what I will do. I saved "[expletive deleted]" to my notepad so I can just copy and paste instead of typing it out when needed.
There is some [expletive deleted] Admin Mod who is a total [expletive deleted]. Noticed this happening a lot in the last [expletive deleted] year or so. That mod [expletive deleted].
I hope you can make a macro to type [expletive deleted] for you.
Alternatively, maybe you could ask whether it would be okay to type something like “fook” or “frick” in place of that particular profanity. I’ve used those myself once or twice on FR, and haven’t had any complaints. At least, not previously.
(hat tip to WKRP :) )
You will now.
You don’t have to post here y’know, There are literally millions of places on the internet where profanity laced posts are more than welcome. And you certainly should not donate to a site that you despise. Thankyouverymuch.
Can you say that?
If you remember, Boss, I avoid vulgarities in my posts - it’s always been a point of pride.
I would observe that if the issue is with an over-enthusiastic Moderator, that’s something that needs to come to your attention. PJ’s threads are a humor mainstay here; I truly don’t think he would suddenly threaten that relationship.
I was once told I had a “potty mouth” on here for using the word: “Damn”....
What in the hell do these people think our guys were talking like while they were taking Iwo Jima? “Oh Darn, my buddy just got his guts fragged out”. “Golly Gee, I’ve been hit!”. “Oh Snap! Can we get a medic over here?”. LOL
Of course, FR isn’t a WWII battlefield, but I’m just sayin’. Real life isn’t a G Rated family show like “Leave It To Beaver”, or Sunday School......
>> And you certainly should not donate to a site that you despise.
Is there middle ground between loving everything about a site including 100% of the moderation, and despising the site?
I hope so.
LOL!!!
That just NEVER gets old!
Jim, how can you say that? I have been here giving both coin and content to FR, both here and downrange if you recall.
That was uncalled for, and I think you know it.
The problem is not with the moderators. The rule is no profanity. If you post daily threads from a garbage bin, you’ve got a lot of clean up on your hands.
Years ago when I first came on this site (In the age of White Water etc) I posted something that was humorous. I got read the riot act by someone who said this site was to be a serious place of study for those who wanted to know about Clinton and his shenanigans.
I backed off for a long time gradually humor became more and more prevalent and I could breathe again
Could you use another word in place of that offensive one? How about if you substituted Fritz instead? You coul ask.
It’s a shame they get pulled. I enjoy these threads.
So was your post.
For your consideration:

Lutherans look on those things neither commanded or denied in the Word of God as “adiaphoran”. Yet, in the Smalkald Articles (specifically the linked Article X), when confronted with a SECULAR ^requirement^ of a show-of-piety, Lutherans will practice the EXACT OPPOSITE to prove the Word (Gospel) of God is sufficient.
In the narrow sense; if your locality ^requires^ the use of red wine in the sacrament, Lutherans will use white wine to flaunt such “Law” in its face.
How about using FR's long standing rule against profanity as an opportunity to expand vocabularies? English is a wonderful language with many words suitable for expressing all manner of emotion, including passionate intensity and utter contempt.
But, I've had a burr about it for a while.
