DESERT HOT SPRINGS, Calif. -- Authorities say about 150 fighting roosters have been euthanized after being discovered at a home in Southern California.
The Desert Sun reports that police found the birds Tuesday while investigating reports of gunshots in an area near Desert Hot Springs, north of Palm Springs.
The roosters were humanely put down by Riverside County Animal Services. The agency says it doesn't offer roosters for adoption because they're worth hundreds of dollars and would likely be sold for illegal fights.
Officials say the owner of the birds was detained and turned over to U.S. Border Patrol for deportation.
Earlier this year, CBS Los Angeles reported that a property owner surrendered nearly 50 roosters that were involved in an alleged cockfighting ring in Perris, California.

Yes. This is much better than letting them fight for their lives. /s

Had rooster buritos last week. Good solution. Bet the well paid animal control officers let the meat go to waste, While the homeless went hungry.

Wouldn’t it have been better to slaughter them and sent them to a homeless shelter to be someone’s chicken dinner?

I’m sure PETA will be speaking up any day now about how illegal aliens are so cruel to animals.

“Euthanized”?? Such polite language. Most chickens are slaughtered.

I realize roosters aren’t the pick of protein; however, couldn’t they be used for food?

Yes, that was my point. They’re not terrible and are certainly edible.
