These Historical Paintings Are More Disturbing Than Most People Would Think

It's strange that many people don't consider television shows, films, and video games to be "art" because of their violent and provocative content. But, have you ever looked at some of the most famous classical paintings?

Some of the most famous paintings of the old world are downright vulgar. Nudity and disturbing images of violence such as deities eating babies whole, women having sex with animals, and even beheadings plaster the walls of art museums everywhere.

Not only that, but these paintings are nearly priceless. People view them sipping on wine and possibly even adjusting their monocles. When you really consider the subject matter here, it seems insane.

sipping on wine and possibly even adjusting their monocles.

When I adjust my monocles, I turn around or excuse myself and go to another room.

One artist depicts exactly what the writer describes, but does so deliberately; Hieronymous Bosch, and the Garden of Earthly Delights.

WELL ... actually ... they’re not as bad as what you see on “Criminal Minds” on TV.

Oddly, I really was stunned by number 15. Something very poignant in that one. Dark, the artist is Polish.

A television program that includes nudity and ‘simulated’ sexual activity still uses actual people. The violence in such programming is almost always FAKE with zero physical harm (Islamists are the ones making snuff videos).

If the sex is just ‘pretend’ would you let your daughter appear in such works? Your wife? It’s not ‘real’ is it?

They don’t use prop mouths, sometimes they use a body double but they almost never ever use rubber boobs and butts in such scenes, it’s real human flesh.

It’s a false premise and the author does not make the case of moral equivalence very well.

Personally cannot watch “Criminal Minds.” Not even the ads. That show is disturbing.

Yep, it is disturbing ... as there are a lot of disturbing people “out there” in our society!

I never watched Criminal Minds. My wife stopped watching it because of the disturbing content. Mandy Patinkin quit the show because of it.

As a Catholic, I grew up with many of these images. Very powerful stuff, indeed.

“Mandy Patinkin quit the show because of it.”

That’s interesting, I didn’t know that. I might have watched one or two episodes of this, but hubby and I tried the spin off they made (it didn’t last). We made it through the first episode, very creepy but interesting.

About 20 minutes into the second one it was gone forever at hubby’s command. And he was right. Very gruesome and pointless stuff.

Artists often work with real models. Those paintings may have been “just paint”, but were made with the assistance of people acting quite closely to the postures & attire depicted.
