An Honest Question, regarding my ongoing debate with a Family Member. (vanity)

At the end of the day, the debate comes down to "how committed" are those that claim to stand for Liberty and our Constitution.

My ongoing debate is with my Step Father.

He is a retired Navy Captain, (Submariner) and a hard core conservative. An old School gun owner that reads the "paper version" of the Washington Post and listens to Rush every day. His Internet skills may be less than what we are accustomed too but his experience and ability to "read between the lines" has earned my respect.

I've tried to get him on FR for a dozen years now.

The Debate.

The debate comes down to that of WHO will stop 0bama from running for a 3rd term.?

His contention is that there will be NOBODY to stop him.

My contention is that there will be millions of people that will show up to protest any attempt by 0bama and a third term.

His point is that 0bama has the media.

My point is that there are enough people to counter them.

His point is that 0bama is importing voters.

My point is that it still won't be enough.

His point is that 0bama is following the classic Communist take over tactics.

I have to agree.

His point is that 0bama has violated the Constitution on soo many occasions without any push back that he will do it again, and run for a 3rd term.

My point is that if 0bama attempted this, there would actually be "democrats" that will oppose him.

There is more.

It seems to me that we are at a tipping point.

While I agree with virtually everything he says, I can't, for the life of me believe it could happen without a flood of Patriots in the streets.

I'm here on FreeRepublic because it provides me some hope that there are still people that really care.

He contends that, like many here, 0bama is trying to create chaos in order defer the elections.

I agree.

I contend that it won't be 200,000 Tea Party folks in D.C., but 2 Million people that will shut that city down.

I am looking for the thoughts of my fellow Freepers.

Since Obama isn’t going to run for a third term, how goofy do you guys have to be to be thinking. so and getting so serious about it.

I can’t, for the life of me believe it could happen without a flood of Patriots in the streets. —

I have been meditating on this for some time. How did Germany let Hitler progress?

Have read some articles about Germans at that time.

Found “Normalcy Bias” as a descriptor.

Agree with your Step Dad.

Still personally I want to DO SOMETHING, but what?

Even the libs are tired of BO’s BS.

Of course, they’d love to have someone like Elizabeth Warren run, so they haven’t learned anything.

0bama would probably like to become the UN Secretary to further his plans to become king of the world. LOL

See, I agree it would be both silly and insane for 0bama to run for a 3rd term.

But.

His point, as well as many here on FR, suggests that there is nothing that will stop him.

I agree with your Stepfather’s assesment. The trajectory and speed at which Obama and Jarret are moving all indicate more derived chaos and crisis to come. Who has stopped them to any substantial degree so far? I have zero faith and confidence with at least half of the brain dead electorate.

I read that Bill Clinton sent a letter to the Supremes outlining his legal reasoning as to why he could run for a third term. The Supremes sent back a note saying, no way. I don’t know what mechanism would actually stop a president from running for a third term. We are fortunate that there are so few bad precedents like military coups or presidents simply refusing to leave the building when they lose. But once a new president is elected the military will stop taking orders from him. Our danger is that we elect people inimical to the idea that was America.

I have a Daughter in a very socialist University that agrees that 0bama is done.

It’s part of my point that 0bama would be rejected if he attempted a 3rd term.

However, there seem to be other factors that lead thoughtful people to believe he will do this anyway.

It would be laughable, and the media and the democrats and the republicans would just ignore him and brush him aside as a nut case, not to mention the much more serious and concrete barriers of law and institutions.

Your step father sounds like a goofy nut case, and yes, they do exist in the military.

And 0bama has removed hundreds of Military leaders.

I contend that even though they are gone, they are not dead and they are Patriots that would organize to fight him.

As far as running for a third term, too many state sec’y of state won’t put him on the ballot for him to win anything. As far as refusing to leave if a republican wins, it’s hard to imagine. I think this is a fever dream.

“I don’t know what mechanism would actually stop a president from running for a third term”

I suppose he/she could run, but I can’t imagine either the Dems or the Pubbies putting an ineligible candidate on their ballot.

I don’t think we need to worry about the hypothetical damage Obama will do in the future, we need to figure out how to undo the damage he’s already done and who is the best person to start that long process.

I agree with you 100%.

He is a “NUT Case”.

However, he still contends that the media, along with illegals, and the utter lack of conservatives to push back against our PC culture will allow 0bama to do whatever he wants.

This is the debate.

I don’t want to believe him.

I don’t agree with him, even though We must agree with many aspects of his position.

The question still remains.

Who is going to STOP HIM !!!!!!!

While I agree with ansel that Obemba isn’t going to try to run for a third term nor try to become ‘dictator-for-life’, I’ll try to answer your prime question:

Assuming that he would try to run for a third term and/or simply become ‘dictator-for-life’ and while people here on FR talk a lot of nonsense about Revolution II/Civil War II/Race War ‘?’, neither will happen because too many people are complacent and ‘do-not-want-to-lose-what-they-have’. In other words, Obemba would do exactly that without too much opposition.

Sure, there would be outrage, etc, but the bottom line is that we would then be subjugated forever.

You have to consider that many, if not most, FReepers are old, decrepit and simply can no longer be as active as a 20-year-old in his prime.

Some, despite their posts of outright rebellion, are at the point of being too old to care much about what is going to happen tomorrow and do not even know if they are going to be on this Earth tomorrow. I, for example, am 71-years old with multiple health issues and I do mean ‘multiple’. How long would I last in a rebellion? Maybe until after the first shot would be fired? ;-)

Harsh? Maybe, but from my viewpoint, that is where we stand.

Another poster, years ago, and I wish that I could remember his screen name, said something to the effect that FReepers are a lot of talk but no action. That may or may not be true and I do not know the whole of the FReeper mentality but I think that many FReepers are in the same boat as I.

Honestly, to you and FIL, I honestly don’t think he has it in him. He LOVES the perks but he doesn’t love the work, the hours, the pressure. He has amassed a fortune or knows how he will. He sees how he can still be the rock star like clinton (bill!) still kind of is. If he gets divorced, which would suit both parties pretty fine, he can love a debauched life and get serviced by any gay man willing. They can just come right into his palatial manse. I don’t think he’s going to try that, and most democrats will be against it as well.
