Back in the day, Chevelle was an economy car. 396 was a horse of a different color.

Always a MOPAR guy...I do harbor a love for the midsize GM products of the 60s/70s. The wife, after many years of storage by family inherited her granddads 71 cutlass supreme that is the ultimate survivor. With a minimum of work this car has currently 6200 original miles. I had it out and about yesterday. Very cool and I got a plethora of horn honks and thumbs ups.

I own and drove a 68 Chevelle until it was a rusted piece of junk.
It was ok I find my dodge Mini vans to be a better vehicle.
They last longer get better millage, start easier.
It is nice to like older things but being old doesn’t make things better.

Back in the 80’s, my uncle had a mint red 67 with a 427/9 that someone installed.
It was a work of art and he sold it. My dad gave him grief about it for years.
He didn’t and apparently still doesn’t miss it at all. He misses some old ragged out 67 Ford F100 though. Go figure.

If you build it, they will come.
I’d buy one.

Same here. It’s either Ford or Japanese. The last two have been Subaru.
I used to be solid 100% Chevy from my 58 Biscayne up to my 2008 Colorado. My favorites were 68 Camaro and C10.

It’s a myth that the latest is the greatest. Take the music industry, for example. There are more people with bad taste out there than ever!

Yeah, of course a Dodge minivan is going to be more fuel efficient than a '68 Chevelle. It would take me roughly 1.5 seconds to choose the latter over the former.
I could fit the Chevy with electronic fuel injection and an overdrive transmission, improving the ease of starting and fuel economy (though I never owned a Chevy V8 of that period that was hard to start).
Though I really prefer the Olds 442 or Buick GS siblings, the Chevelle has soul. The minivan is an appliance.

I didn’t realize that was a custom build. I thought it was the latest new muscle car retro.

A high school buddy completely rebuilt a 68 SS Chevelle 427. Huge TRS racing pistons, cam, etc.. Had to enlarge the oil sump to keep all that high-compression hardware slick.
The night he got it back from the $5,000 (in 1972 dollars) rebuild, we took it out on the street to show it off. He hit a pothole on one of the city’s fine roads at an advanced speed and tore the bottom out of the pan. The engine seized almost immediately and $5K vanished in a cloud of blue smoke.
And I had to call my dad for a ride home.

The minivan is an appliance. In some cases an affliction.
