‘Jurassic World’s Saturday Slips 20%, Putting Dino Pic On Course For $200M Weekend
Deadline Hollywood ^ | June 13, 2015 | Anthony D'Alessandro and Anita Busch

5th UPDATE, Saturday, 11:45PM: Industry calculations tonight are pointing toward an opening weekend of $200M for Universal’s Jurassic World, which would make it the second biggest domestic opening of all-time behind The Avengers’ $207.4M all-time title. After posting a $83M Friday, JW‘s Saturday is coming in precisely where most expected it to be, down 20% from Friday, putting the second day for the dino redux at $66.8M. Most think Sunday will decline another 22%. By the time the fifth NBA final game airs tomorrow night at 5PM PST/8PM EST, the thinking is that it won’t taser the dinosaurs’ momentum. The lower end of Jurassic World‘s predictions this morning saw a $181.4M weekend, which would mean that Sunday would fall 51% from today. Many distributor bean counters think JW‘s pace is too strong for a figure like that.

Networks are running the original JP.

Talk about overkill. Recently, it was showing on about 6 different cable channels at the same time.

I don’t think this movie will do as well as the first one, when you include inflation. It’s not revolutionary and they didn’t break any new ground.

Maybe if they had gone for a storyline where the dinosaurs were evolving so they were free of the island or something.

I will see it, but I’m not expecting anything new.

We will see it on Father’s Day.

I had to baby sit the grand daughters so my daughter and her husband could go see it on the big screen. They really liked it. They had some Jurassic World Jeep there and she had her picture taken leaning up against it. She was ecstatic and in her words “extremely happy and in Nerd Heaven.”

I thought it was pretty awful. Same with that “Avengers” movie that came out a few weeks ago. It seems that moviemakers are relying less on plots and dialogue and more on CGI and other special effects. Also, hugely disappointed with the “Hobbit” movies. The magic of the book was drowned out by endless “battle scenes” that you couldn’t even follow and gave you a headache.

Succeeds within its limitations.

I saw the original in the theater....it was ok nothing to write home about. I will go see this one with my three sons because they want to see it and I am seeing it because of Pratt’s patriotism only. Otherwise, I’d give them money to see it themselves.

Here's some real good recent movies:

Love and Mercy (the Brian Wilson story)

Spy (great satire-comedy-spy vs spy spoof)

ExMachina (thought provoking scifi)

I'll see Juraissic Park, for sure, but give it a few weeks so the crowds thin out

I got stuck seeing it. Meh. Since I never bothered with 3 I can’t say for sure it’s the worst of the series, I can say it’s the worst I’ve seen. JP stories have never been great, but this one was extra silly, and the director is just not up to snuff.

I thought it was fantastic. All the energy and fun of the first movie.

Don’t tell me — the dinos get loose again? Man, I hate it when that happens.

You'd have to pack something pretty serious. Like this.

I agree, nothing really new. But it was a good summer, popcorn adventure romp. We enjoyed it.

Yep, just a good old fun time at the theater.

So glad to hear it. My boy and I watched the original about five million times when he was little, and I still love it. (Alan Grant falling onto his backside, overcome, when he sees his first dinosaur--perfect!) So now that the same little boy is returning from deployment, it will be great to see this together.

I agree on Spy, that was well done as a comedy. Also, my wife appreciates a leading actress who's not a supermodel.

Love and Mercy is on my list per your recommendation.

The studio has to raise expectations to make their money back. They do that with all of the stories and excitement ahead of time. But without downplaying the movie or spoiling your viewing, you are correct in not expecting much of anything new.

I saw the movie in 3D on Friday. Pretty good crowd for Friday midday.

The movie was almost non-stop action and special effects. Pretty much the same plot as the others but with a different setting and circumstances . That's all I'll say without being a spoiler.

I enjoyed the entertainment and the popcorn.
