This find is not surprising..........
No, unpossible.
We were told that the western hemisphere was sunshine, lemondrops and rainbows, that barbarity “only” happened from European hands.
/ sarc.
Remember that Mayans are not Aztecs.
As I remember it, as Cortez and his men entered Tenochtitlan, they passed a wall made of 20,000 skulls. That gave them an early clue that they had better not just a conclude a trade treaty with these people.
When Cortez landed and discovered what was going on, he assumed he had been sent by God. He probably was.
I’m aware of the difference. The Mayans were not monks.
Any word from the MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chican@ de Aztlán) the Aztlan nationalists who want to reconstitute the Aztec Nation in the US Southwest and Mexico?
What the heck is that? Happy hour at Planned Parenthood?
Found on the western side of what was once the Templo Mayor complex in Tenochtitlan, in modern Mexico City, the partially unearthed skull rack was likely built between 1485 and 1502 and may have been about 112 feet (34 meters) long and 40 feet (12 meters) wide.It was described by the early Spanish conquerors -- the Aztecs' euphemistic name for it was "the corncrib", and the only surprising thing is that anyone is surprised. :') Thanks dware.
I wonder what I will find in my neighbors’ sheds. Afraid to look, now.
The leadership of MECHA said that they would speak out on this once they return from “Machetes R Us” shopping.
I believe that you go too far on this statement when you put in "... nothing more than ...". They did bad things but they were, like the ancient Mediterranean civilizations, builders as well. Much of what we know about them is circumstantial as their growth was cut-off by the encounter with Spain and Europe. Would they have become 'great' like Rome (a close analog to Aztec) is only for speculation as a results.
FYI: I do recommend Mel Gibson's 2006 film, "Apocalypto", for a very good portrayal of the MesoAmerican people and culture at the time of the Spanish initial landings. Not for the squeamish as it does show good portrayals of ritual human sacrifice as well as battle deaths.
That “Kalimah!” scene in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, taking out the heart? The Aztecs literally invented it.
I saw it and have visited and know the history of the Mayan ruins in Copan, Honduras. Human sacrifices was the daily norm so I don't think I was off base in my assessment of these long deceased civilizations......

No, the Mayans are a different mass murder cult from Mexico.
I quit listening Mayan guides 30 years ago, a couple of whom, have to be claimed history professors.
Nothing like stone age savages.
An all those skull have nice holes in them where the priests extracted the brains for their dinner.
What kind of rack are we talking here?
Yeah! What you said.
