A longtime American wardrobe staple is in danger of extinction

Blue jeans are increasingly going out of style, and even industry heavyweights like Levi's and Gap are taking notice.

Teens are now buying more gear from Nike and Lululemon over denim classics from brands like Abercrombie, according to a recent Piper Jaffray survey on teen spending.

Levi's CEO has admitted that the company is threatened by the athleisure trend of wearing yoga pants, Bloomberg reports.

"We’re scrambling," Bloomberg notes CEO Chip Bergh told analysts last year. "I mean, there is a big difference between the product that we’ve got on the floor today and what the consumer is looking for. And we just flat-out missed it."

Bloomberg reports that Levi's, which is the world's most iconic denim company, stuck to its core product instead of adapting to consumer trends.

As a result, this has cost the company. Bloomberg notes sales have dipped from over $7 billion to $4.8 billion over the years.

"As we saw ‘casualization’ continue even further, the customer basically told us that they had enough denim until something really unique and innovative came along,'" NPD analyst Marshal Cohen told Bloomberg. "We really saw the denim industry and denim retailers basically turn their nose up on the customer and say, 'We don’t care what you really want, we’re going to tell you what you want.'"

So nice to hear about others who wear skirts or dresses only. I have never been comfortable in pants, so I don’t wear them. And I’m a farmer. I have one pair of pink scrub pants that I wear when I have to work the beehives, but other than that, it’s skirts and dresses for me.

Ok, I’m 70. What is “athleisure”??????

Exercise clothing for people who don't exercise.

The modern jeans look just like that. They have that very obvious stitching (usually in white) and look very “cheap”. I can’t buy jeans for my kid because they all look like hell.

I miss my old 501s.

I also have a pair of black pants (winter) and a pair of tan pants (summer) to wear for airplane travel, but I put on a skirt as soon as I get to my mother’s house.

“...can you imagine her being commemorated in a museum for never throwing away a pair of old pants?”

Saving this for my wife when she tells me to clean out the garage!

(Cool story! I’m glad that someone got them that appreciated them. Not some guy that fished them out of the Goodwill container.)

I like the Wrangler 936ATW. $40/pair. I order them online because I can’t find my size off the shelf. I’m kind of a skinny little runt with a 28” waist. Perfect fit that looks great on me and they are very durable.

Actually it is an excellent policy to dress in an appropriate manner... too bad colleges do not encourage such behavior to a greater level than it does. It does serve the students well in life, to put ones best appropriate appearance forward on all occasions. Showing respect of others and self.

God bless America, direct our path and encourage us to speak up for truth and be an example for others, everyday. Thank Thee LORD for thy grace, love, mercy, loving kindness, and faith in Thy Son Jesus Christ, and for the HOLY BIBLE, that we may know Thy Will Amen.

...but you are gith...

OK, usually I have a pretty easy time deciphering typos, but can you help me out here? What did you mean to type in place of "gith"?

This might become another stuned beeber!

Right. Sometimes my VA issued prosthesis misfires, and my glasses are outdated and don’t catch it. Of course it’s not my brains fault.

Travis, I am not making fun of you. I honestly am curious what word “gith” represents in your post, and I can’t figure it out.

(And thank you for your service, FRiend!)

I live in my jeans after work and on weekends. I couldn’t work around my property in anything else.

A decent quality pair of jeans will last several years. Once you have three pairs or so, you simply don’t need more.

Hmmm... from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creepshow :

“Jordy Verrill... a dimwitted backwoods yokel...”

Should I take that personally? :-)
