Frequent travellers are voicing their disdain at Marriott Hotels for a room redesign with a ridiculous twist. As numerous guests have pointed out this year, Marriott has been removing desks from many of its hotel rooms.
The design flaw was recently addressed by Yahoo Sports columnist Dan Wetzel, a person who (by his own account) spends a fair amount of time staying and working in Marriott Hotels. Further online research by Wetzel found that there were pages of Internet forums devoted to the trend.

Some highly-paid executive made a stupid decision.
I guess I know where I’m NOT staying.
I think the Marriott execs thought “Pajama Boy” represented all Millennials.
Too many guest were having sex on the desk with the cleaning lady.
There goes my appetite for lunch
I stay at a lot of Marriotts, and I haven’t seen this.
If I am on vacation, I do not care. But if I am working, the last thing I want to do is work in the concierge lounge or the “business” center. As a sports photographer, my work can draw a lot of unnecessary attention from people glancing at my computer.
Most of the time I do not “care” about the teams I cover. Most of the time I would have to refer to my notes to know who won the game.
I do not want to talk sports. I do not want to engage with anyone while I am working.
Leave me alone. Put more plugs in the room for me. Leave my desk there. And do not expect me to interact with anyone except the front desk clerk and the room service guy.
But, I guess I am just a pissed off Gen-Xer
While removing the desks is an odd idea, what do you put in its’ place. It may make the room appear larger, but replacing something functional with nothing is a losing idea.
According to Wetzel the desk is being replaced by a small couch.
“the desk is being replaced by a small couch.”
Once ppl realize the couches will be just one more thing to get “stained”, no one will want to sit in them!
“Pajama Boy” represented all Millennials.
Pajama Boy only represents about half of millennials.
I wonder why homosexuals don’t like desks.
Was that wrong? Should I have not done that? I tell you, I gotta plead ignorance on this thing because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing was frowned upon, you know, 'cause I've worked in a lot of offices and I tell you people do that all the time.
Shine a blacklight around in the average hotel/motel room. You’ll end up sleeping in your car if you do.
Is that wrong?
This is equivalent to the people complaining about those Apple computers in the 90s getting rid of the floppy disk drive.
Stayed in a Marriott property for a business conference earlier this year, and no desk — complete pain in the @ss. Had work to do for the conference and normal job tasks; sitting on a couch, hunched over a small, round coffee table. Get a clue, hotelier chumps.
Urination contest with the furniture supplier?
Kickback wasn't big enough?
Had sexual advances declined?
See my post #18. Lots of business travelers doing work out of hotel rooms. Marriott has gobbled up so many brands, hard *not* to stay in one of their properties. Plus many companies have deals w/ Marriott and require their employees to stay in its hotels.
