Alone on Christmas
No Source | December 18, 2015 | Aloneonxmas

Due to really bad family dysfunction I'm staying at my apartment alone on Christmas. It's the most difficult thing one can do. You just never, ever adjust to it.

Is anyone else spending Christmas alone? Would anyone who reads this mind pasting some Christmas cards online please? I love Christmas trees & Santa, also a tree inside a warm house. I can visualize in my mind that at least. Merry Christmas. PS I like a lot of the posts on here I feel at home. Don't have a lot of people to talk politics to or anything else for that matter

I’ve been there, especially overseas.

I’ve been in your shoes, but won’t be this year. There will be people posting on FR, so you won’t truly be alone.

Most of my family has died. I’ve done it (spent Christmas and other holidays alone) several times.

Pick up a Bible and read the Gospel According to John and the Psalms.

Hang in there.

I have not been alone on Christmas Day but I have been alone on Christmas Eve often.

I have friends who volunteer at various missions and shelters to serve Christmas meals to others. Then one is not alone and truly celebrating the Christian gift of giving and serving others.

I grew up in a very dysfunctional family and Christmas gatherings have a very bad memory for me. So most Christmases I intentionally spend alone. But I like it. Prefer it now. I find there is no better time for reflection and getting ones head and priorities in order.

My advice is approach it in that mindset. Christmas is SUPPOSED to be about God. Not stupid sweaters and drunk idiots spending a lot of money to ease their consciences about the people they screw all year, by buying them presents.

You’re new. Welcome to FreeRepublic.

Sounds a bit sappy, but count your blessings on Christmas day—you have many.

But, more importantly, if you realize the holiday is not just Santa and bright lights, you’ll realize you’re never alone.
He’s with you.

Merry Christmas to you.

If it is as bad as you say, you are smart not to go.

Merry Christmas.

If there is a 'feed the homeless' program around, you might consider volunteering your help. You'll probably be around a few dysfunctional people there, too, but they will likely be happy to see you.

Whatever your choice, May you have a blessed day.

I have spent a few Christmases away from family, too, out on oil drilling rigs. Make the most of it, wherever you are.

You are never alone on Free Republic...spell words wrong and the spelling police will be right there. And, you can always shine a flashlight in dark places to ID all the spiders that you will happy to know that you share your home with. See, would you not rather be alone than have me to keep you company? LOL

Yeah but, you are in America. So, something to be grateful for and you’re amongst family here.

I gave my 7 year old grandson a $20 to give to a homeless lady. It wasn’t so much the money, it was the human contact. It was probably this first time anyone had spoken to her, much less shaken her hand, in weeks. There are people all around you who are dying just for a little friendliness. I’m particularly grateful for salespeople who just smile. It’s free, a great power you have.

Alone? You’re never alone. You have similarly thinking people who now know of your situation. I, for one, want you to have the happiest Christmas ever. Just as someone else mentioned, there are activities and charities that are very active right now, all around you. They need you. And, I’d bet, a lifelong friend awaits you. You have something to offer, and it’s your duty (and you know it) to offer it. If you decide to stay in, well, keep posting. We’re going to be here for you. Freepers are never sleepers! We’ll get you through.
