It's rare that game shows get away with not forking out at least some cash, but that's what happened on Jeopardy! when the final clue bamboozled gambling contestants.

The popular US programme has been on the air since the 1960s and sees contestants answer questions based on a range of subjects, like history, current affairs, art, and literature.

But on Monday the show's three contestants were not so lucky, or capable, as they bet a total of $33,600 only to lose out on a question involving school segregation.

The offending clue was: "A 1957 event led to the creation of a national historic site in this city, signed into law by a president whose library is now there too."

That school is also very violent, with poor-performing students, and many breeding teens.

Not a win-win, for anyone.

George Wallace was governor of Alabama. Faubus was Arkansas.

The lady on right should have done it then because she couldn’t have beaten the others on a right answer if she went maximum and they all got it.

Actually, Ark Governor Orville Faubus; Central HS, Little Rock ARK. Thanks for playing though.

You were thinking of U of Alabama in the mid 60s.

Old Orvil was governor for 12 years, I think, at a salary of $12,000 a year. The year he left office he built what was then a mansion in the hills for $240,000.

My parents loved him because he started the commodities program. Or at least he got credit for it. We ate government cheese, powered eggs and drank powered milk. The cheese was the only thing worth eating.

Orval Faubus’ father was a Eugene Victor Debs advocate: not too popular in AR. Orval though was idolized until c. 1970, when the late “Dandy Dale” Bumpers bumped him off politically.

Bumpers was simply another fraud who became attorney general, then governor then senator. One of the frauds skipped the senate and went straight to the white house.

Another final jeopardy fail.

On Friday it was the Final of the College Championship.

Category, US SENATE

Here’s what college kids know about the Senate

“This Senator who served from 1973-2009 cast 12000 something votes”

One girl wrote OBAMA who was 11 damn years old for the ‘72 election.

Another kid wrote BYRD.

The 3rd one had the correct answer, Biden, (but wrote Byrd first and crossed it out).

Ok not everyone knows an iota what a political junkie like me might know about the Senate, but come on!

I saw that air last week. I don’t expect everyone to be political junkies, but that girl was criminally stupid to have not only written that answer, but to have bet the farm on it.

Today’s final Jeopardy, they all got it wrong.

I don’t recall the exact wording but. “In 1801 King George III of Great Britain gave up this royal title that had been claimed by English monarchs since the hundred years war”.

One lady said “King of England”
One guy said “Defender of the Faith”
One guy said “Duke of York”

Alex said beforehand it was a tough one.

Again this is right in my wheelhouse, I would probably do awful if I were a contestant, but to me this one was very easy, I was surprised that Alex said it was a hard one. Anyone who’s watched Showtime’s tv series “The Tudors” would know. If not, the mention of the Hundred Year’s war is a major clue.

LOL

King of France. English monarchs still pretended to the title for almost 250 years after they lost the Pale of Calais, their only French territory.
