The Cambridge City Council again did not vote on a resolution last Monday to rename Columbus Day as Indigenous Peoplesâ Day for the third time this year.
Despite what the resolutionâs proponents claim is strong public support, the legislation is on hold while councillors negotiate how best to change the holiday name and still honor Italian Americans, many of whom see the day as a celebration of their heritage.
Councillor Nadeem A. Mazen, who is leading the charge for the name change, said he anticipates the process will continue to play out over the next few months while councillors try to be sensitive to Italian American residents' concerns.

Nadeem A. Mazen
What the hell is a Nadeem A. Mazen doing screwing around with OUR AMERICAN holidays? Deport his @$$.
Gee,what a surprise that this is being considered in Cambridge./s
.
Well, Italians are indigenous to Italy, so if should be fine!
With names like Mazen and Deveaux I wouldn’t talk about “ancestors”. The Moslems/Arabs did nothing but rape, pillage and murder their way across Africa, Middle East and good parts of Asia, giving the word “genocide” a real meaning.
Deveaux. Ah, elle est un Francoise. Well, the French managed to invade Africa, had a bloody revolution in 1789, invaded half of Europe (stopped at Moscow), invaded Mexico, Haiti, etc, surrendered to and too often cooperated with their Nazi occupiers in WW2, and fought bloody wars in Indochina and Algeria.
Boy, they have ancestors they can be proud of. NOT!
I guess the irony of celebrating indigenous peoples on the anniversary of Columbus’ arrival in the Americas is lost on these academics.
Now that is one scary looking broad. I’m a female so I can use terms like that.
