Took a walk by the lake this afternoon and finally got some decent shots of a little blue heron. He was not as skittish as usual.
Great shots, and please add me to the ping list. I went out today and finally got a Golden Eagle in my county in SW MI (rare for this area). Not great photos, but some decent looks. Best February day I have had around here.
Add this to the end of your code, and change the number you see to whatever size you prefer: width=200>
GBH are one of top 5 favorite birds. They are so majestic.
outstanding thank you
Hmmm...you maybe right. Also known as the tri-color heron.
Tree of Souls
According to Jewish mythology, in the Garden of Eden there is a Tree of life or the "Tree of Souls" that blossoms and produces new souls, which fall into the Guf, the "Treasury of Souls". Gabriel reaches into the treasury and takes out the first soul that comes into his hand. Then Lailah, the Angel of Conception, watches over the embryo until it is born.
According to Rabbi Isaac Luria, the trees are resting places for souls and sparrows can see the soul's descent, explaining their joyous chirping. The Tree of Souls produces all the souls that have ever existed, or will ever exist. When the last soul descends, the world will come to an end. According to the Talmud, Yevamot 62a, is that the Messiah will not come until the Guf is emptied of all its souls. In keeping with other Jewish legends that envision souls as bird-like, the Guf is sometimes described as a columbarium, or birdhouse. The mystic significance of the Guf is that each person is important and has a unique role which only he or she, with his or her unique soul, can fulfill. Even a newborn baby brings the Messiah closer simply by being born.
Beautiful! We had a bald eagle swoop low near our van the other day. I would have taken a picture but I was driving. That usually doesn’t work very well! I was in awe of his size. They are huge!
Beautiful and interesting. Thanks.
I mis-identified this bird. It is a tri-color heron, not the little blue. Still a nice looking fellow.
Could you please add me to your ping list?
we do all our hunting at night...so strange to hear them owls and seeing them fly along with you in the woods to get game, my walking flushes up
being out at 3am is pretty common
the 3 C’s are on the road after 2am....cops...crooks... coon hunters
Several weeks ago a bald eagle took a squirrel from the middle of the road about 50 yards in front of me. I was doing 75, so no time for pictures, but what an awesome memory!
done
Great responses from your first "official" Birdy Ping.
Keep up the good work!
Oh, and I heard and saw a singing curve-billed thrasher today. All the thrashers are singing now. It's music!
No you do NOT feed them better than I do!! ; )
Kind of reminds me of what happened one day while I was watching the mourning doves at my bird feeder. I was watching one come fluttering in for a landing, when WHAAM! A red tailed hawk smashes into it! Then the hawk lands on the ground with its talons on the doves chest and just SQUEEZES the poor thing.
I love both of those types, so I was particularly distressed to see that. :(
Then how do you explain this comment by you:
Today nothing!.....Hmmmm?
They're gone, they left, exited, hit the road, flew the coop.......... They're now at my place.
I love dirty threads!
Oh, that is cool! Half of my kids would have loved it, the others would have been in tears. We’re a mixed bag!
They do have a beautiful song.
