A thought on how to change the tone around here.

I have been through several of the Free Republic "Silly Seasons", aka, the Republican presidential primaries. Every one of them is rough, but this is the worst one of all.

I'm guilty of being a dog, but even this dog can learn new tricks. Here is my proposal:

LET NO ONE SPEAK ILL OF ANYONE ELSES CANDIDATE. ONLY POST POSITIVE THINGS ABOUT *YOUR* CANDIDATE.

I think that would just about eliminate the rancor.

We won't get 100% participation. But heck, if we got even a fraction of that, Free Republic would be a lot nicer a place, in this, the worst of all "Silly Seasons".

I pledge to do this. Who else is on board? Chime in!

I am all for it. I have found myself avoiding FR lately and that is not something I want to do. I understand why some people support a different candidate but the nastiness and sneering is over the top. I have reasons as good as anyone else for supporting the candidate I do.

At some point I need to decide if I can vote for the other guy. I think the supreme court is more important that the white house at this point. I would say it would be a lot easier for me to vote for Trump if he promised Cruz would get the first SCOTUS nomination. This may be a way to heal the divide. Thoughts?

We are in an age where good is called bad and bad good, ....... it’s been more than irritating for me to see Cruz torn apart as if he’s a demon from hell itself, when in fact he’s been fighting for our freedom, our religious freedom as well, for years. I’ve lost a lot of respect I once had for many posters who have claimed to be conservatives on this “Conservative Site”.

Agree...I stopped posting about candidates almost completely...and not much otherwise because everything has been Trump 24/7...and if anything posted about Cruz the “gangs” were quick to spew language and insults on anyone favorable to Cruz...nothing at all substantial.

Not even news items, once we would see here on FR first are posted much at all....even a great victory that the House on Monday overwhelmingly and unanimously approved a resolution declaring Isis ‘IS’ committing genocide against Christians passed 383 to zero was barely discussed if that....So I've been going to other news sites to get the actual news of the day.

I agree the Supreme Court is more important than the whitehouse.......but I cannot see Trump promising anything to Cruz should he win. ..he's not good on his word anyway so I wouldn't believe him if he did offer that..... Remembering that Trump has stated clearly he makes deals and everyone has to be flexible he could change on a dime, and with that quick to make excuses for that.... Further I cannot say I'd vote for Trump at this point. That bridge is one I don't know if I can cross should he win the primary and frankly don't want to think about it til we have secured the candidate.....

Excellent call. I generally bail on the primary threads after two minutes of hearing KKK, nazi, fascist, etc. Etc. And it’s Us talking about Our candidates. Save that crap, anger, hostility for the real enemy. The klinton.

Upon further thought, it seems to me that this proposal could be of benefit.. It would need a catchy name or perhaps a memorable acronym, for ease and clarity of posting in threads where the commenters are posting intermperately.

So, whattaya want to call this grand experiment?
