Wow! This one of the youngest orchestras that I have ever seen. Amazing!

A lovely piece. Unfortunately, while the music is playing I have The Man With One Red Shoe running in my mind. ;-)

Rimsky and Korsakov are two of my favorite composers. (ducking)

The Moldau link there is another fine performance. I always loved that piece.

I recommend the following classic performances:
1. Kondrashin/Concertgebouw, Philips
2. Reiner/Chicago, RCA
3. Beecham/Royal Philharmonic, EMI
4. Ansermet/L’Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Decca
5. Fedoseyev/USSR Radio & TV Symphony Orchestra, Melodiya
I have also heard about 25 other versions that are not as good as these.

Either conductors are getting a lot younger, or I’m getting a lot older :-/
(Thanks for the post!)

Thanks! Also a great favorite of mine. It was the first classical recording I owned.

Here is a question that I have been pondering for years.
What is the purpose of the conductor with the wand when all the musicians are focusing on their instruments and the sheet music?

Just listened to it. Lovely overall, except for the next to the last movement that was much too speeded up. But the final violin solo was perfectly exquisite. Wonder who that first chair violin is? Stunning bow work and fingering.

Thanks. I haven’t heard this since the 80s when I had it on vinyl.
