UNREAL: Russia FIRES on Israel…

Back in August 2011, I was part of a Congressional delegation weeklong visit to Israel. One of the special parts of this visit, which included our spouses, was to sit with Prime Minister Netanyahu in his cabinet room and discuss Middle East security policy. It was there -- and I will never forget -- that PM Netanyahu very presciently warned we should not consent to a complete withdrawal of our military footprint from Iraq. He strenuously conveyed to us there would be a vacuum created and who -- or what -- would fill that void could be very dangerous.

And so that prediction has come to fruition with, as predicted by PM Netanyahu, dangerous consequences for his nation.

As reported by Reuters:

Russian forces in Syria have fired at least twice on Israeli military aircraft, prompting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to seek improved operational coordination with Moscow, Israel's top-selling newspaper said on Friday.

Asked about the alleged incidents, however, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: "In this case, Israeli press reports are far from reality."

But Netanyahu, in remarks published by Israeli reporters whom he briefed by phone on his talks on Thursday with Russian President Vladimir Putin, said "there have been problems" regarding Israeli military freedom of operation in Syria.

He gave no details, but said: "If you don't deal with the friction, it could develop into something more serious."

The unsourced report in Yedioth Ahronoth made no mention of dates or locations for the two reported incidents, nor did it give any indication of whether the Israeli planes were hit.

Would have been nice if Bibi had told Bush “What are you, nuts? They all hate each other in Iraq and it would be like stirring a hornet’s nest!! Take care of Afghanistan and watch out for Iran and Saudi Arabia/Qatar. But don’t get in a ground war in Iraq”

Will never understand why he was for it.

He is sharp enough to know Iran and Syria would have a field day going after our troops and all hell would break loose in Iraq.

It was Bush who pulled out of Iraq without leaving a Forward Operating Base, kicking the slats out of any platform we could have used to influence events in post-war Iraq.

We should just let anyone who wants to, to go take out the Saudis. We buy their oil, they recycle those dollars into funding a religious war against the remnants of Western civilization.

problems" regarding Israeli military freedom of operation in Syria.

Israel should stay out of Syria. They are committed to 'regime change' but their allies, the Al-Nusra front, are nothing but violent gangsters. Worse still, they are inefficient, loser violent gangsters. Netenyahu will one day look back on the era of a peaceful northern border, and regret the campaign against Asad.

Israel can’t lawfully operate in Syrian airspace and Russia can, making this a rather odd complaint.

He was for it because he knew it would sooner or later result in Iraq being divided into two or three States.

Although I don't have any references at my fingertips to back it up, Rummy was for Iraq being divided into multiple States from the get go. He lost that argument but I have a feeling that Bush left the way he did rather than taking the long term occupation approach because Rummy won him over due to the ease with which US troops were being targeted by any and all terror groups who could put a few dozen people into the fray.

Looking at what could turn into something like the protracted occupation of Northern Ireland I figure Bush came around to letting the place fall apart and reform into multiple States rather than hanging onto what amounts to artificial borders the Brits created at the end of WWI.

If the idiots hadn't decided taking down Libya and Syria were good ideas, Iraq as multiple States would be a manageable situation preferable to either the current situation or the situation prior to the 2003 invasion when we were in fact already pretty much enforcing a multiple State solution by patrolling the skies and protecting the Kurds.

No.

Now if you want to look at Iran and Russia, then you’re looking at the build-up to Ezekiel 38.

As to when those credit card bills come due, can’t advise on that.

I made a similar joke many, many years ago. It was when folks were predicting Y2K was the end of all things.

Leaving Iraq was a very poor decision. It takes 50 years to completely stabilize a nation, After all, we’re still in Germany, Japan and South Korea, which are all prosperous nations to this day. Had we stayed in South Vietnam, it also would have been one of the most successful nations with a vibrant economy.

We shoudn't have gone in unless we were going to stay decades and occupy the country, no doubt about that. The fact is, though, that the US wasn't going to commit to occupying Iraq for a generation so where's that leave us ?

In a bad situation, for sure. It’s a crying shame that we’ve abandoned all those innocent people. Especially since we were just getting it right.
