Why has FR turned on Cruz?
vanity | today | me

Posted on 05/02/2016 2:30:43 PM PDT by bassmaner

I'll keep this vanity short ... Mods: please feel free to pull it if it's inappropriate.

Why have so many here on FR turned on Ted Cruz in such a vicious way?

We cheered when we first heard about Ted taking on the establishment in TX to win the primary in the race to fill Kay Bailey Hutchison's vacated Senate seat, in a bad year for the GOP

We cheered again when Ted exhorted us to 'Stand With Rand' when he offered public support for Rand Paul's filibuster over the NDAA

Once more, we cheered when he stood on the Senate floor and urged his colleagues to join him and use the power of the purse to kill Obamacare

We nodded our collective heads in approval when he openly and correctly called Mitch McConnell a liar

And we jumped for joy when he became the first GOPer to announce a presidential run!

So ... what happened? Yes, Trump announced. But at first, not too many people took him seriously. For the longest time, there seemed to be an unspoken pact between Trump and Cruz, where they occasionally said nice things about each other while bashing the other candidates.

But ever since the voting began and Trump turned on Cruz (starting with the Ben Carson imbroglio in Iowa), a large contingent of FReepers did the same and seem to be echoing RINOs like John Boehner and Peter King in their absolute abhorrence of Cruz.

Yes, we need to choose sides, but for God's sake, can't we send that kind of vitriol in the direction that it belongs, ie. Hildabeast and the 'Rat Party, and knock off the circular firing squad?

Cruz made some deals with the GOPe (Lindsey Graham et al) and many of us felt he was being played for a fool. Also, it was a betrayal...

That said, I agree with you - it’s time to turn away from this mess and join hands in a “#NEVER HILLARY”...

I was Cruz fan for a long time, and was one of the first here on FR to suggest a Trump/Cruz ticket. Maybe not THE first, but one of the first few.

Ted lost me when his campaign morphed from “Elect Ted” to “Stop Trump”, which showed me he had caved in to the GOP Establishment. Then the idiocy with Ben Carson, if he hasn’t outright lied he has stretched the truth to near breaking, now he’s decided to pick Fiorina as VP...She’s a fraud, really bad record as CEO, fake outsider who has been eyeballs deep in politics for at least 10 years, looks like someone’s pissed off ex wife...

I don’t bash any candidate’s supporters, never have never will, and don’t use any of the pet nicknames people use, not even for Hillary, although it is difficult to resist the temptation to call her Hildebeast now and then...

I’ve been all for Trump since the day he announced, and originally wanted Cruz as his VP. Now I’ll hold my nose and vote for Cruz if he manages to somehow cheat Trump out of the nomination, which is what he’s trying to do, if th4e GOP manages to pull off some sort of trickery and shoe in someone else I’ll probably have no choice but to still vote Republican just to stop Hillary even though I won’t like it.

Point is, we absolutely must stop Hillary no matter what, even if that means a GOP tool we really don’t want. Hillary WILL destroy the economy, Bernie will only destroy it faster, Cruz is business as usual but better than either, anyone else the GOP manages to foist on us is useless at best, but just might not destroy the country.

Let me repeat that...we MUST stop Hillary no matter what. Even if that means someone we don’t want. As much as I despise Kasich, if it comes to that, he can’t be worse than Hillary. She is the most despicable person I’ve ever seen, even worse than Obama, and must be stopped at all cost.

Do not stay at home folks, hold your nose and vote for anyone you have to, in order to stop her, but don’t walk away from this one.

Hopefully that will be Trump. No politician currently in our government that I know of has ever signed the front of thousands of paychecks, finished any project ahead of schedule and under budget, fought a city government to allow blacks and Jews into his golf course, or to keep the biggest American flag he can get on his property. Only Trump has done all that. And more. He’s dealt with politicians all over the world, contrary to what the press wants you to believe he was saying America was losing to foreign countries in the late 80’s, and did not become a multi billionaire by spending more than he earned, which seems to be most politicians’ favorite pastime.

Yes, Trump has said things I don’t like, has a separate 747 to carry around his ego, has other flaws I don’t like...but I’m convinced he really does mean to do what is best for this country and bring it back from the brink of disaster.

If he is cheated out of the nomination, I expect to see loads of civil disorder, but I won’t walk away from the election, I’ll vote for whoever I have to if I can help stop the monster that will be the alternative...she is not an option.

I backed Cruz all along and donated to his campaign. The night he blamed the Chicago near riots at a Trump rally on Trump, he became dead to me.

That was big - it was as if he got his 'talking points' from the DNC...

That’s not what I was talking about, though. There are a good amount of Freepers (Trump supporters) who are using Boehner’s statement as proof that Cruz is what they believe him to be. There are an equal amount of Freeper’s (Cruz supporters) who are using Boehner’s statement as support for why they like Cruz. Why give the man the time of day when he has already proved he cannot be trusted? That is my point when I said I laugh at the people who put credence in what he has to say, no matter their interpretation and motives of what he said.

I saw many Cruz supporter posts citing Boehner’s comments as new, powerful arguments in favor of Cruz. There was even an argument put forth by a professional pundit to that effect. [I read it on this site, but don’t recall the name.]

It all seemed genuinely pathetic. Cruz is in a graveyard spiral, and no amount of insults from the loathed former Speaker will help him. Hopefully tonight is the coup de grace, and Trump can shift his focus to Hillary/Sanders going forward.

‘has a separate 747 to carry around his ego’

I’m a Trump supporter, but that is downright funny. Still laughing about it, in fact.

Besides Wallace, Greta, Hannity, and Bair caught him lying. He is MENTAL and a LIAR. He told his audience yesterday they were being uplifted by God. He thinks he is a prophet. I stay away from whackos like Cruz.

I am not interested in having a dishonest conversation with you. BOTH Trump and Cruz supporters are using Boehner’s words to support their position; there’s plenty of proof of this if you care to read FR. If you don’t care then move along.
Boehner should be ridiculed into silence from anyone claiming to be conservative.

Are you actually accusing me of being dishonest??? Isn’t that going a bit too far? Please post an exact quote of what I’ve said that’s a lie.

I hope you have something of substance; it’s a nasty accusation otherwise.

Omitting a portion of the truth is still dishonesty.

Publicly accusing people without providing a shred of evidence to back your smears is dishonesty.

Go back and read your own responses to me. You have yet to address my comment that BOTH Cruz and Trump supporters are using Boehner’s words to justify their support. You just keep saying over and over that Cruz supporters are the ones doing it. Again, if you only care about bashing the Cruz supporters for doing it and giving a pass to the Trump supporters for it, then move on. Let’s not keep beating a dead horse.

Here is another. And you should hear Cruz after only 22 people showed up in Philly out of 1.6 million. This is Hannity.

It’s time for Cruz to suspend his campaign because he cannot win the nomination legitimately. That simple, it’s time to focus on the real enemy, Hillary.

I have spoken honestly about what I’ve seen. Your fevered, overheated accusations are unwarranted. If you don’t like what I have witnessed firsthand, say so. But by all means stop falsely accusing me. It does you no good.

As will I. Even if the GOPe manages to 'parachute in' someone other than Trump or Cruz (or even Kasich), we still need to stop her at all costs.

Look, I even in one comment gave you the link, all you had to do was click and read. It is clear you only care about the portion of the truth you want. You are greatly misreading my “tone”. I am neither fevered nor overheated. I am tired of the back and forth nonsense between Trump and Cruz supporters; both sides condemn the other for what they themselves do.

Nothing I have said is untrue. You might think you have caught me because you said you’ve only “seen” Cruz supporters using Boehener’s words, but this is the dishonest part because you refuse to look. You don’t want to look, that’s fine, but don’t try to turn your willful ignorance around on me just because I won’t play along.
