Good afternoon Gardeners. It's a really nice, sunny, hot day here in Missouri. 88 degrees at the weather post. I planted some more endive today in a pot and set it in the shade of a tree next to a raised bed.

Saw a few Yukon Gold potatoes peeking out, and dug them up for lunch, then hilled up the rest. Now that the rain has quit, I am hauling water in the watering can from the rain barrels to water the plants in pots.

The rest I water once or twice a week using the swimming pool water and a hose, using gravity. Still haven't set out the Rosemary plant. Can't figure out where would be the best location.

Hope every one is doing well. Prayers up for all. Have a great weekend and God Bless.

It’s 95 and sunny here. My garden is suffering from my not wanting to go out there. The birds can have the blueberries and blackberries.

Been a fantastic broccoli year in Missouri. Weather is dry but garden looks better than ever.

Asparagus winding down in upstate ny. Spinach bolting, watermelon, cukes and pumpkins coning up. Strawberries got a late start but are here.

Hi Gang. We just got back from 6-days at our trailer. The six hills of Indian Squash are up as well as well as a couple of potatoes plants. Barb’s garden is doing well.

Tomorrow, we will inspect the bee hives. More later.

Tomatoes and bell peppers going gangbusters here at my house. More cherry tomatoes than you can shake a stick at - don't know what to do with the surplus except flash-boil them and can them. Pole beans, okra, some corn, beets, all doing well. Have two big planters of habanero, jalapeno, and pimento peppers that have taken off like weeds. Living here in Alabama, we have an extended growing season, so we're getting ready to put in some squash and pumpkins. The wife started two avocado trees from pits over the winter, and they're loving it outside on her planter's bench. I've got three pecan trees potted that I dug up from seedlings a couple years back, and they'll be ready to plant next year. Also started my mini-orchard with two varieties each of apples and peaches. Next year I want to complete it with Anjou pear and Ranier cherry trees.

Re: Your Rosemary plant - put it in the sunniest spot possible...the more hours the better...and go easy on the water...but don’t ever let it completely dry out. 10-10-10 for fertilizer a few times this summer. Got that? LOL!

We’ve had a nice growing season here in southern WI. May was really cold, but June is making up for it. We’re having rain right on time once a week. The days are sunny when they need to be and overcast when they need to be.

Yesterday I had the day at ‘home.’ I’m in the middle of selling my little farm, and I now consider my ‘home’ out here on the BIG farm...160 acres, with Beau. :)

I got the entire ‘temporary’ veggie garden weeded and mulched with MOUNDS of hay. Man, I love how that snuffs out the weeds! And I got the house yard mowed (I also consider THAT chore, ‘gardening’) and since Beau pulled out the butt-ugly Barberry shrubs across the front, I now have a Blank Canvas that needs filling. The house is REALLY TALL in the front, so of course it BEGS for a climbing rose...but, well...I gotta think on this!

We’ve been enjoying salads of lettuces, kale and radishes this week and everything I’ve planted looks fan-tastic and the Beagle (Chief) is keeping the rabbits out of the garden, so even without fencing, there has been no critter nibbling.

Good Dog!

Looks like your garden is doing well! That’s smart, too, using the more nitrogen-rich rainwater for watering.

Up here at over 9,000 feet on the Rockies, Yukon Gold potatoes did really well except for one thing: tuberworms. I found out that they’re brought by moths. They were terrible and bored through a lot of the potatoes. Hopefully, we’ll have better soil and weather before long. :-)

Most of my garden is FINALLY in. With the crazy weather and all that rain, I thought I’d never finish. As of today, everything except spaghetti squash and leeks are in. Wife is happy with her herb patch.

ZERO luck with spinach and lettuce - all washed out. Going to try and get some potted plants; let the seedlings go until next year. I’m collecting string beans and eggplant is flowering. And my pickle plants are starting to grow.

Got the irritation pump set up last week, and have put nearly 600 gallons on the garden & fruit trees. As luck would have it, after going through the first 400, we got just under 2” of rain in less than an hour. Between runoff instead of soaking in at that rate, plus a couple pf 100F days right after, it’s back to watering. So glad God was kind enough to create straw for mulching.

Due to poor emergence, I replanted a bunch of bush speckled butterbeans.

Still have to hill the potatoes, but at least I’ve tilled furrows between the rows, so just have to pull it over them. I was going to do it this evening, but spent that time dusting the damned potato beetle infestation; building some hills & planting cocozelle.

Egyptian onions are done for the year; getting too tough; and the garlic is about ready to dig.

Strawberries were a total bust; need to replant.

So far, we still have a peach on the tree. Might be a couple more, but I haven’t found them if there are.

Major storm Thursday night - 70 mph winds with bow echo. Trees down, power lines down, still 62K without power after 40K restored today. ETA for all power to be back on is Sun 11 p.m. Spent this morning trouble shooting generator which is now on so we have water, lights & fridge. Freezer acting up so all the good stuff is now in fridge freezer - whew! The afternoon was spent with a chainsaw & hauling debris. Driveway & “yard” are back to normal but fields will take a lot of work before I can now. Grateful for what we do have & that all my family is ok. Almost forgot to mention the garden! I thought it would be destroyed - it looks great - no idea how that happened.

Everything growing well. Lilies bloomed today and they smell so nice. Tomato seeds have sprouted and getting tall. I’m so hoping there is enough light to produce tomatoes! Pansies and lettuce holding their own, even with temperatures sometimes in the 90’s. The only disappointment is the Four O’clocks. The seeds have sprouted but not growing past their seed leaves. I would love to post some pictures but don’t know how. Do not have a smart phone, just an ordinary digital.

It was another hot, dry, busy weekend here in Central Missouri.

I've been running irrigation in the tomato patch 24hrs/day since last Friday. The upper end of the two longest rows wasn't getting enough water due to the length of the run and several feet of elevation change, so I spent a good part of yesterday fixing that. I ran new mainline halfway up the rows and spliced into the drip tape there. I need to do the same thing on the third row of tomatoes, but I used the last of the mainline taps that I had on hand so it will wait a few days til I get more in. I also tapped into the mainline and plumbed up a garden hose fitting and stop valve so I can get water to the orchard trees out by the pond without having to carry it there in buckets. That is going to make it much easier to keep those trees alive until we get some rainfall.

The cantelope and Russian cucumbers that I planted in the kitchen garden are up and looking good. I laid weed mat down where the winter greens had been and planted four hills of sugar baby watermelon there. Broccoli is ready to harvest. Cauliflower and cabbages are catching up. Snap peas are toast.

Neighbor Dave mowed my hay field on Friday, then raked and baled on Saturday. I was expecting it to yield somewhere around 400 bales and it came in at 412. I was very happy to see that Dave made some upgrades to his equipment over the winter, adding an accumulator attachment to the baler and a grapple for the skid loader. What would have otherwise been a completely miserable day throwing hay turned out to be no work at all for me.
