The #BlackLivesMatter rioters and looters think that they can hold the justice system hostage to get the outcomes they want with threats of mob violence. Fortunately, it didn't work for them this time.

An absolute standard of care with no exceptions would result in chaos. You realize we would hardly arrest anyone (which is why murder rates are climbing after this), those we do arrest will have reason to hurt themselves deliberately in order to make a claim of criminal charges against the person(s) that arrested them, and jails would be emptied because we could not staff them.
I don't think you have fully thought your position through. I agree that government should be restricted to protect our rights and our health. However, it must also be equipped to deal with criminals. It seems like you have arrived at an emotionally derived position, probably one based on personal event and not one that has looked at the consequences of that position.
Both of which would have caused less motion in the vehicle. The rolling stop is less likely to cause forward movement in the van and the wide turn is also less likely to cause sideways movement in the van.These are things I tend to do when concerned about something moving suddenly in my car. If anything, these observations show the driver was driving with caution for its occupants.
Propose an alternative that doesn’t allow the government to murder anyone it pleases behind closed doors, and I’ll give it full consideration.
Base prosecutions on evidence that someone did something wrong.

After I wrote my comment, I realized that the settlement was with the City of Baltimore. Now I’m wondering if the mutt’s family will try to sue the cops, or even the hospital.
It now seems highly likely, if not inevitable, that there will be zero convictions coming out of this. This guy had the worst charges among the six, and he skated.
I’m having a very hard time believing that mob rule didn’t win the day in Baltimore and that the state’s attorney is being made to look like an incompetent moron (and rightfully so).
So far as I can tell, it seems like even the “No justice no peace” crowd doesn’t feel like doing much about it. The charges were always a reach and a reaction to political pressure. This is a wonderful day. I just hope the remaining three officers also get off.
Freddie Gray’s family settled with the city of Baltimore for, if memory serves, $6.8 million. I’m pretty sure that precludes the possibility of civil suits. I hope so, anyway.
A corrupt prosecutor has to do the best she can when the facts aren’t in her favor.
A citizen dying while in government custody constitutes a hell of a lot of evidence that someone did something wrong.

If they didn’t do anything wrong, they didn’t do anything wrong. If they were negligent, they didn’t commit murder.
If the prisoner tried to harm himself, it falls on him. What could they do? They wooudl have to violate his civil rights and restrain the sucker /s
