I do believe KrisKringle has won the internet for a day.
That looks like the one, and the one Ray76 linked looks like the same model. You can’t see it well in my shots, bad lighting, but I can see the SEL inside a rectangle on the face of it and the 3 circles, which I’m assuming are the LEDs.
Thanks for the info and the laughs, some of these posts were pretty humorous.
OK know where can I get me one of those cool metal hats???

I can top this...30 feet up, and there was ~never~ a tree growing near where it's hanging.

That makes sense. It’s like one of those vacuum cleaners that moves along the bottom of a swimming pool.
But this one moves back and forth on the powerline cleaning bird doody.

It’s ez - once you know it’s an overhead fault indicator ;)
It would have been a loooong time before I got that, if ever.

Nah ... it’s either a squirrel trap or a squirrel feeder.

I would have never guessed it. Didn’t know such a thing even existed...
First thought was camera, but since I’m a long time photographer it only took a couple of seconds to rule that out. After that I was baffled...
Something like that does lend itself to some off the wall theories though...the flux capacitor post comes to mind...

Appears to be a fault detector. It senses fault current and indicates a downstream fault on the line by a strobe (blinking light) Generally they will indicate up to 4 hrs.... Hope this helps
