I read an article in “The American Rifleman” several years ago. It was a reprint of one which had been printed not all that long before.

The author was a veteran of the 6th Cavalry who was stationed right outside Tombstone during the time of Wyatt etc.

That was the same description he gave of Earp. He said he was a pimp who used the badge for his own benefit. He also did not care for Doc. Holiday who he described as an insane killer.

All the older, good guys are almost gone.”

You’re so right about that. Four generations in our family had an opportunity to know him starting with the time my Dad and I listened to him on the radio. Both the grandsons watched his old movies in black and white and thought they were just a hoot.

Not too many of them (and us oldsters) left.

Well, I'll accept the History Channel account, which goes well beyond anything I ever new about the life of Wyatt Earp, but does not implicate him as a pimp or a thief, even if there are intimations that such things may have been possible. C'est la vie.

My daughter got a HOBY scholarship/training when she was in high school. That led to her getting an internship at Cato thru (as I recall the name) Foundation for Teaching Economics. As a grad student at Stanford, she taught introductory economics. HOBY may not have been the only source of inspiration and her success, but it certainly was a major stepping stone along the way.

God bless Hugh O’Brian for making something positive and long lasting for young people.

And I remember watching those with my Dad. And Wagon Train, the Rifleman, etc. They all had good stories and a lesson.

Maybe when he was alive... but not anymore
What will you be after you pass?
We all have an idea of who we are, what we have done and what we have accomplished.
When you can see that end in the near future it seems the past blurs a bit and anyone of us would try to paint a picture of who we think we are for those that think of us in the future.
He had help but he sure did paint a picture and it wasn’t luck, it was a good painting.

Baloney?

I don’t think there is any doubt that Wyatt Earp was in fact a pimp. If you think that is Boloney, I guess that is what you think.

Dang it ... I posted to you about Earp and forgot to point it out that my post was in response to your post...

“Wyatt Earp was a pimp and a thief - so were his brothers”

I was not dissing Mr O’Brian or trying to elaborate on His Life

Sheesh ...

I once went to Dodge City in an effort to find a salesman in that area. The campaign was a bust, a waste of money. I called the head office and told the CEO that this will be the first time he heard this for real: “I’m getting the hell out of Dodge.”

We still laugh about that.

***”I once went to Dodge City” ****

I went to Boot Hill Cemetery... the signs directing you to the location were actually bigger than the location.
I swear an 8 year old kid could throw a dirt clod from one side to the other... pretty small plot and don’t need to ask too many questions about the 8 year old or the dirt clods.
I went there to read the Tombstones... (obviously the 8 year old went to sling dirt clods, so that question is answered)

Most of the old Boot Hill Cemetery is now covered by an elementary school.

You said nothing about being pimp and my guess is that it wasn’t even illegal on the frontier in those days.
