[snip] Molony, who has been studying the Titanic for 30 years, examined rarely seen photographs taken by Titanic's chief electrical engineer before it left the shipyard to identify black marks left by the fire on the front right-hand side of the ship's hull.
The photos came to light in a recent private auction, The Sun reports. They show 30-foot long black streaks just where the iceberg would later strike.
"We appear to have a weakness or damage to the hull in that specific place, before she even left Belfast," Molony said.
He notes that there is a "myth" of a 300-foot gash opened up by the iceberg in Titanic's side, "but when the wreckage was examined, people were perplexed because they couldn't find anything like it."
The fire, which is known about but little discussed, began when hundreds of tons of coal "self-heated" enough to burst into flame in a huge fuel storage area adjacent to one of the ship's boiler rooms. According to the Telegraph, a dozen men were brought in to combat the flames, but they raged for days or even weeks, reaching temperatures perhaps as high as 1,000 C.

Evil corporate greed.
Golly gosh.
Molony presented his new evidence in the documentary “Titanic: The New Evidence” on the BBC’s Channel Four New Year’s Day.

Oh, for goodness sake.
Let’s blame the companies for all of the ills ever experienced by everyone. At some point, people need to take responsibility for themselves.
If this is about the silly conspiracy theory that the ship was deliberately sunk for the insurance money, I will pass. Some conspiracy theories really are just naked attempts to cash in on the gullible.
Of course. Private enterprise == bad. Gummint == good.
Just compare a TU154 to a B727 ...
For example.
Going too damn fast through an ice zone certainly contributed. But the bottom line is that the Titanic sank because it was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Having said that, the evacuation was a cluster f*** and a lot of lives could have been saved that were not.
Oh, for Christ’s sake it has been at the bottom of the ocean for over 100 years. Give it a rest.
I thought somebody already proved, like 20 years ago, that the rivets were substandard, allowing more damage then would have occurred, that is, allowing water into more compartments than if more of the rivets held?
“Corporate Greed, Not Act of God, Sunk Titanic”
so the name of the iceberg was Corporate Greed? When did they start naming icebergs like typhoons?
Got sick of talking about the Russian hack lie, pussy hats and Keith Ellison.
Not saying this is true, but I remember reading it was done intentionally so three or four VIP who opposed the federal reserve didn’t survive.
I’ll stick with the theory that first off they used high sulphur steel plates, too brittle in the cold, and that they switch builders plates with the Olympic.
The White Star Line chose to carry only 20 lifeboats aboard the Titanic. At least 40 would have been needed to accommodate all aboard the ship. But 20 was allowed by law at the time.
The White Star Line made a very reckless, and arrogant, decision there. What it reckless enough to be classified as evil? Perhaps.
Bingo. The wrought iron rivets pulled up by the salvagers were tested and found to have three times as much slag in them as specified....likely as a consequence of rushing to finish the boat. When the iceberg was spotted, the captain pulled hard to port and the starboard side slid along the side the berg for a few hundred feet and many of those substandard rivets popped off. The rest as they say is history. Now could a serious fire onboard before the ship left have caused even more damage that weakened it further? Yes... likely.
Yup!
Climate change is the first Problem,,,
And the Last !
All Aboard!
