I have a hard time imagining male fans of the Harry Potter movie franchise going to something like this for Emma Watson. Girls, yes.

As for me, a woman, I prefer the Mad Max, Terminator, or Transformer type of movies. Otherwise.....I'll wait for Netflix ( maybe). And...I absolutely won't watch anything with Meryl Streep in it.

My teenage son enjoyed the movie , had some lol moments like when the beast nailed belle with a snowball and the dialogue as he suffered through transforming from being socially awkward

We had a mixed group of 11 ages 8- adult including 2 boys and they all enjoyed it

You know, the girls were the most critical because they all saw Emma Watson as Hermione. Not Belle .. Even though both characters were bookish nerds

All agreed they would have liked to see an unknown cast as Belle
And Liam Hemsworth as the beast :-)

The only thing the 2017 version did regarding those things was made such messaging even more apparent. Even the 1991 version had those exact same messages you decried in the 2017 version (and yes, even in the 1991 version, Belle was very much a snob. Maybe I should remind you that the very opening of the song had her actually decrying the town as being provincial twice, and in fact her first few lyrics had her outright stating the town was “full of little people.”). Heck, if anything, the villagers in the 2017 version are actually nice compared to the 1991 version. Say what you will of what the villagers in the 2017 version were like, at least they didn’t outright cheer on Gaston when he loudly divulged key plans to his evil plan of blackmailing Belle by having her father locked up under false charges of insanity unless she married him, which was exactly what the 1991 version did with the Gaston reprise (thank goodness that reprise was cut since it was stupid and needlessly demonized the entire village more than necessary), not to mention they also apparently had some hesitance regarding locking up Maurice unlike in the film where they, again, cheered Gaston on.

You are an outlier. Just like a guy that likes love story musicals better than the stuff you dig would be.

68% on Rotten Tomatoes.
That is not good for a Disney movie.

Original 1991 - 93% Rotten Tomatoes

I went Thursday night at 7 pm, the first showing. It was 90% filled in Green Bay Wisconsin. The audience was 80% female. I took two teenage daughters and my wife. The show was offered every half hour from 7 PM to 11 PM. And the students got in for $5. My daughters wanted to see this movie because of Emma Watson mostly, plus Ariana Grande and John Legend.

If you were not told that one character was gay you would not have noticed it. The part was a silly little dancing, singing person in the first movie. To declare the character was gay is not a stretch. And not important to the movie.

Look, you guys don’t realize it but Harlequin Romance books have been selling in the millions for a hundred years. They provide a happy ever after romance formula that woman have been buying and still do buy. And while you never see them, they are snapped up by the women in your life, in one form or another because they have romance, boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl frets, boy girl struggle, girl gives in. Whether its TV, Movie, books or the national enquirer you can’t argue the fact that lots of women want it.

Thanks for the recap.

I guess I got a little caught up in the controversy too.

Next time I’ll wait to pass judgement, and we all should as well.

Guess this was why Dan Stevens didn’t want to allow himself
to be cast as a certain Downton Abbey character, so insisted
they kill him off DA before that happened. (He seemed to be
striking a low profile as the Beast when he & “Belle” were
together on some talk show. He let her run her mouth while
he kept mostly quiet. Just content to collect the big gob
of money I guess.) Typecasting can be the death of a career.

Huh? Hollywood is one of the biggest enemies of freedom, morality, conservatism, Christianity, etc. It also perverts the way the world views America.

Yep! Same formula every time since the days of Jane Austen and likely before that, too.

The boy and girl don't like each other.
Then they see the good qualities in each other.
They fall in love.
A crises happens and they break up.
The crisis is resolved and they live happily ever after.

I agree. I also think conservatives should start making their own movies.

It does seem like the “clean” movies tend to do well.

Now it really IS a “FAIRY” tale.

Wonder if Gaston, when he finds Le Fou has the hots for him, will cry...”GIVE BACK MY BEAST’S GIRL!”
