An extraordinary collection of rare colour photographs reveal the Second World War as the people living through the conflict would have seen it.
They range from the Womens Auxiliary Air Force preparing parachutes for use during the invasion of Europe to shots of troops in training, stationed in Italy and Tunisia, and sightseeing in Greece.
There are images of General Dwight D Eisenhower and his senior commanders at Supreme Allied Headquarters in London in February 1944 and Winston Churchill and his chiefs of staff in the garden at Downing Street in May 1945.

If WWII were re-fought today, we would lose. The Media would side with the Enemy.
Does anyone know who the other commanders are in the Eisenhower photo?
No doubt.
The NYT would breathlessly announce in bold letters on the front page that Calais was a feint at the real invasion would take place at Normandy.
I have zero doubt they would do it in a heartbeat.
Great photos. Thanks for posting them.
The guy on the right, one facing Ike, is Monty. The RAF officer on the left is RAF Arthur Tedder, #2 in Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force, SHAEF. I think the guy next to Tedder is Bertram Ramsey head of the naval operations. Then next to him is Omar Bradley. Next to Tedder is head of air operaitons Trafford Leigh-Mallory. Perhaps next to Trafford is Gen Devers.
I’ve listened to some recorded radio broadcasts from the WWII era, and given the anti-American bias that is so pervasive today, it’s actually startling to hear those reporters wholeheartedly supporting the US and our allies.

Bradly and Montgomery are easy...
Dad’s brother, my uncle Lloyd, flew dozens of missions with the 8th AF out of England. Dad, meanwhile, flew in the China-Burma-India Campaign.
Admiral Ramsey and Air Chief Mallory were both killed in airplane accidents before the war ended.
My Dad was also in the CBI. He had some neat stories about flying over “The Hump”.
I have a picture of dad’s first airplane. It was green with Nationalist China stars.
He later had a more modern C-46 to haul cargo over the Hump.
Was he in the Flying Tigers?
My Dad might have been a passenger on your Dad’s plane at some time.
Leigh-Mallory apparently insisted that his flight to Burma take off, even though the pilot and the rest of the crew thought the weather was too poor to fly. They crashed in the French Alps.
