Vanity.

Posted on 04/30/2017 7:29:34 PM PDT by fhayek

I know how vanities are frowned on around here. And I understand fully that policy. But I need to talk to my friends here at FreeRepublic. I have a problem. A serious problem. Not a I-need-six-months-chemo-problem. But a problem that, I have no doubt, you would consider catastrophic.

It is a problem that had me considering drastic options. Extreme options. Irreversible options. I saw no way out. So I prayed for a miracle. My miracle involved buying a lottery ticket. That is was my only way out.

The funny thing is, God's idea of a miracle is vastly different from the idea of stupid mortal humans. What happened, and tears are streaming down the sides of my face as I type this, what happened was that my family (four wonderful daughters, and a truly special wife) rallied around me. They embraced the situation. They even think that this can a new lease on life. It was a response that I had never even considered. God sure does work in mysterious ways. I don't need a lot of responses here. But I can testify that miracles do happen.

Losing your house ? Let me tell you a brief story.

I semi-retired at age 35. Know how much money I had in the bank ?

Eight Hundred Bucks. That’s 8 big ones.

When I semi-retired (I work like 4 hours a week now) I did it the day that I lost my house.

I moved from Connecticut to very rural Pennsylvania with basically the clothes in my closet. I left the key in the door of my old house and rented a little place out here for less than half of my monthly mortgage payment (it was like $2000 a month, which I tried my best to make with 100 hour work weeks. That’s just one bill. My bills approached $4000 a month) I drove a 1984 Subaru wagon. I had just gotten married. I lost my house.

That day was like winning the lottery. Of course it didn’t always feel like it.. But those feelings of doubt and hesitation disappeared with each small accomplishment. Always small accomplishments.

It’s 5 years later, and I have never been so happy.

The way I sorta think of it is like one of those guys who goes to prison, and teaches himself law. When he gets out, he passes the bar and things turn around. He doesn’t get a ton of clients, and he’s not living high on the hog but he’s doing it.

Only in this comparison, the prison is one that about 98% of people are incarcerated in. The prison of our minds.

Walk away from that house. I’m living proof of the success story here. In many ways it will be an immediate weight off your shoulders, other weights off your shoulder will come later.

FRemail if you wanna talk more.

You aren’t losing your house at 9:00 A.M. if you call a competent lawyer at 8:00 A.M.

Thanks. It is going to be alright. That is what I have learned. I was scared shitless to face them. I didn’t think I could go on. In fact, I was SURE that I couldn’t go on. I now know that I am far more blessed than I realized. Look, I feel stupid if this thread continues. My message. You are always wealthier than you know. You have blessings, resources, that you don’t realize. And, guess what, miracles happen, and you don’t always recognize them. Good night. I will sleep well tonight.

Dude. Get a grip. You gotta have Wells Fargo holding the note on your joint. Wells cost us thousands in late fees once. They cost me a good job. Then our house bruned down, for God's sake. We were left with NOTHING. And they tried to snatch our new house after I got sick and lost my job after that, and we had to lawyer up to send them scurrying back into the swamp. They're predators. I mean, lookit - I had the blessings of several generous Freepers come to my aid when all of that went down, and I don't for once believe that someone of solid conservative timber should be left floating away in the floodwaters. If there's anything we can do to help you iron this out, let us know. I'll kick in a few shekels to keep the wolves from your door. Rule One: Know your allies, enlist them, and FIGHT BACK. Commit to it, and God will clear the path for you in ways you may never even see or know. Book it.

Do NOT feel stupid. I know I speak for all of us who have been up against it. And that’s all of us. It’s good to know good people are in your corner. Sleep well!

I am so glad you put yourself into God’s hands and asked for a miracle. Suicide is a sin that cannot be absolved.

Without any details my story was almost the same as yours. There was no way out but the drastic violent way. I was nearing the end of my rope. But I stopped off at church all alone after work. I begged. I prayed like I had not done in thirty years.

The last person on earth that I would expect help from, a week later asked what was going on and I told him how bad it was.

He offered to try to solved it. He said, “Because I can” And he did.

Sometimes you can’t NOT afford to call a lawyer. Before my health went haywire I sold a legal plan that’d take care of this sort of thing for a reasonable monthly payment. We’re 3X more likely to go to court than the hospital in this country.

I feel a lot of support here. Thank you everyone. I will not ask for anything but your prayers. I will endure. I know that now.

Some law firms will file a Chapter 13 bankruptcy case for you for around $500.00 down. You start paying the monthly plan payments and court costs (and additional attorney fees) after the first 30 days.

If the plan of reorganization doesn’t work out, well, you tried.

It would be worth a phone call at 8 am.

Does this render your family with physically nowhere else to go? This isn’t clear here.

Also in most places, you still have some time before they can evict, even after the sale.

I hope it is not as bad as to render you homeless, but sometimes losing a house is a blessing in disguise, it is to lose a headache that you are no longer in a position to keep up with.

Exactly. And I’ve seen courts set aside the sheriff sale when the bankruptcy case was filed on the same morning.

The truth is the truth. We lost everything but the clothes on our backs. Everything. Our dogs. The meds we needed. Everything. I don't even care about the clothes, furniture, any of that. That can be replaced. The American Red Cross, God bless them, were there withing an hour. Put us up in a motel for a week until we could get reoriented. Several Freepers here kicked in contributions to assist, and every little bit helped. The church and relatives stepped up. My family drove down here to Alabama after getting home from a Disney trip in Florida. On an hour's notice. In Maryland. Believe me, there were moments I could envision a rope, a tree branch, and think, "Why not?" But we didn't quit.

What we have here is a fellow Freeper - family - that just had life take a big bite out of his ass. I'm willing to man up and help, and so should the rest of you.

Mr. Hayek:

It is likely that you are experiencing a miracle. These are the times when the fabric between the physical world and the material world becomes very thin. Changes we can only contemplate take place, with results and consequences that benefit us in ways we can not imagine in advance. My suggestion is to pray for industry, wisdom and right action, and from there, leave the results up to whatever they are supposed to be. We are not in the results business. We are not in charge of outcomes. We are in charge of love and relationships, and responsible to try to be the men and women that we were meant to be. Abandon fear and selfishness, and ask for the Holy Spirit to guide you to a fit spiritual condition to accept the situation. You will see God doing things for you that you cannot do for yourself. Prayers for you Mr. Hayek. Your namesake has a quote on internet search: “The mind cannot foresee its own advance.” Prayers for blessings, for you and family. Regards, FE.
