I know how vanities are frowned on around here. And I understand fully that policy. But I need to talk to my friends here at FreeRepublic. I have a problem. A serious problem. Not a I-need-six-months-chemo-problem. But a problem that, I have no doubt, you would consider catastrophic.
It is a problem that had me considering drastic options. Extreme options. Irreversible options. I saw no way out. So I prayed for a miracle. My miracle involved buying a lottery ticket. That is was my only way out.
The funny thing is, God's idea of a miracle is vastly different from the idea of stupid mortal humans. What happened, and tears are streaming down the sides of my face as I type this, what happened was that my family (four wonderful daughters, and a truly special wife) rallied around me. They embraced the situation. They even think that this can a new lease on life. It was a response that I had never even considered. God sure does work in mysterious ways. I don't need a lot of responses here. But I can testify that miracles do happen.
You are right. Some things are more important than money--or houses.
I don't envy what you're going through, but you are going through it. God will lead you all the way.
Rest on Jesus. Give your problems to Him.
So you somehow figured out that something you have had since the beginning of your marriage was not wishful thinking. Congratulations. Be sure to care as much about them as they apparently care about you,
Indeed it is quite often when we are pushed to the edge that we find that God has made just enough space for us. It may be a tiny table, but still it is a table prepared for us in the presence of our enemies.
And we may discover that the high-dollar way we may have been living before was a nicety, but not a necessity. And we find ourselves caring more, not less, about those around us.
Mark 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
—
Far more important than anything you will ever have on this earth is your soul.
Jesus said, “I am not of this world.” — So don’t get so wrapped up in worldly matters. Hang in there. You’ll be fine.
God always does all things well! Enjoy the embrace!!!!! You will have more surprises along!.....
Hey, if you’re happy, we’re happy! Good luck.
Good Luck..
Good Luck..
And don’t forget a second family — the local church, wherever you find that God has guided you to worship at.
Let them know, too, about your situation. The more voices asking with thanksgiving (for previous miracles) for a new miracle, the more glory the Lord gets through granting it.
Yes indeed, God works exactly like that.
Man by definition doesn't know tomorrow, so "impossible" is only what his limited mind will conclude in error.
The Bible is loaded with weirdo scenarios that play out in ways nobody would expect, followed by statements like, "in this you shall know that I am the Lord".
It gets to the point where even at the lowest depths, you can't wait to see what tomorrow will bring, because who can imagine what odd solution is in the works. The longer it takes the more elaborate and fantastic and extraordinary the Divine plan.
Paradigm shift. There's no going back. :)
All the very best to you and yours!
Amen.
Very true.
Lord Jesus Christ,
We come on behalf of this family and pray that you will provide their every need in these coming days and weeks ahead of uncertainties. ..that they might find rest in you and the way to go as you reveal your good will and purposes for them now.
We rejoice with this family for bringing them together to face whatever may come, and the newness of their relationships with one another might grow even deeper as they walk this walk of faith.
We also thank you for this adversity which came and brought them to this place....and as your word so rightly says....”And it came....to pass”.
May your good spirit surround each one now as we the FR family give them into your hand .......along with all the prayers of our hearts and minds..spoken and unspoken at this time.
In Jesus Name,
Amen
I think you hit it on the head. Some here are not reading this right. I said to God, God, get me out of this. I was thinking, give me a winning lottery ticket. God said, my way has nothing to do with your cheap short cuts. My family, said, well, hey, we can move this around. We can pitch in for this, we can find a way to still be together. Heck, it might even be a fresh new start. I was dumbfounded. And I am truly blessed. What WE think are answers, aren’t even on God’s radar scope. That is what I have learned.
That is a sufficient miracle.
Sometimes creature comforts can insulate us from one another rather than bringing us together. God knows when it is wise to give, and when it is wise to remove.
It’s a hard lesson for proud people, like we Americans who have so often found it easy to pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps so to speak, to learn.
It’s the same lesson that our lefties, ironically, need to learn about the third world. Our lefties deem those people miserable, when if you actually asked those people, you might find them unexpectedly cheery in more circumstances than anyone believed possible. Their idea of significant trouble is a lot more dire than ours.
Indeed. What you need, and what you think you need can be two vastly different things. Not to put too fine a point on it, tonight, I had a profound experience. And it may have even saved my life. Compared to that, who cares about a pile of sticks and mortar?
Evidently God does not want you to be there. Either there is something better in store for you or something bad will happen if you were to stay there. That’s the way I’d prefer to see it, anyway.
It’s so easy to gauge our success by the material, but then we run into the conundrum: how much is enough? The upwardly mobile find themselves with the uneasy answer of “nothing can be enough.”
Look at what Donald Trump had to do in order to step into the White House. He had to divest himself of myriad investments. Whatever money he kept to his name is blind trust managed.
It’s a picture, in a way, of how Jesus was the very Son of God who had become poor for our sake. Jesus is what we saw when God came slumming to live with us.
It’s when we become dirt poor on earth that we discover how rich our Father is.
