Definitely both of you have my prayers. I wish I could help more.

Pay only the bills now that would allow continued care. Doctors and hospitals can wait for years on $ dribs and drabs. Pay for the medicine if it means you won’t be able to get more if you don’t. Search for reputable pharmacies outside the USA for the meds, you can save a lot that way. There are some good Canadian pharmacies that get get you the same drug but for the European market may in turkey, say, maybe with a different name, same effectiveness.
Praying for her a full healing.

Stay away from ALL sugar.
Even fruit? Like, oranges?

With stage 4 cancer? Yep. Stay away from all fruit except maybe blueberries (and blackberries and raspberries?). No breads, no pastas, no fabricated starch. All carbs from veggies and root veggies (including potatoes). I’d leave out grains too.

Snake oil is always with us . Snake oil does not meet the scientific standard, of course, but it has always made money. Sadly, people will grasp at any unproven treatment. The charlatans should be jailed for leading people away from evidence based medicine. The same people led astray will believe and use every other modern technology, but not when it comes to medicine. It’s really quite pathetic.

This bilge can’t go uncontested. The chemistry of alkalinization. Yeah, take baking soda. As soon as it hits the acid in the stomach, or in excess in the blood, it reacts to form water and carbon dioxide. This kind of ignorance has no place on FR. Telling people with a loved one dying of cancer this nonsense ... There is a special place for people like that.

1 Will, trust fund(s) are better which are not subject to probate as a Will is, has lawsuit protections in them.
2 Living Will stating her wishes
3 take her name off all assets ASAP
4 write out a list of who gets what have it notarized
5 find a good hospice service check them out with the BBB for stand by
6 talk about it, and what she wants for final arrangements from music, service, clothes, etc. Tough job, but it needs doing.

This is Joey Feek’s 3 bouts of cancer journey. It may give you some insight. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoDUYhweFbg

Prayers up for you both! Biggest 1 of them all that she knows where she is headed Heaven in the worse case, and you will join her. Love her all you can, be with her all you can. She wins either way.

I know those are not the things you want to hear, we went through this with both my parents, Lung Cancer. My 91 yr old BIL is going through advanced Prostate Cancer that has metastasized into his bones, congestive heart issues; and his 2 kids butt heads constantly over his care. The son who is there is the best informed and very business savvy. While his daughter is one of those Cali Lib Feminist who wants to run everything from Tarzana, Cali. Thinks because she is married to the ‘fake’ doc from Love Boat she is an expert in medical. He goes for a radiation treatment next week, for pain, it’s just a matter of time now.

They don’t call in Hospice until all treatment stops, then another layer of medical care kicks in that is not covered by Ins or Medicare. But choose that fully informed as there are shady ones out there.

So basically you’d only be eating meat, eggs, fish, and green leafy vegetables?

Prayers for your continued Remission.

I’ve had two Friends that were diagnosed with AML. One of them was an ex coworker had no idea he was afflicted until he collapsed at his Daughter’s 9th Birthday Party.

They had a tough fight but they both achieved Remission. One of them had a much rougher road to get there, but he got there.

Take good care of yourself. We are fellow travelers.

We live in amazing times.

I think you would build your diet around the kind of starches the best gut bugs need to create a better immune system. Starchy root vegetables (both kinds of potatoes, beets, turnips, anything), all other vegetables, cooked, roasted, raw when appropriate, green leafy too, no need for green leafy to be in huge quantity. At each meal a clean source of protein (fish, healthy animals, beans). Fat that goes with that protein, or olive oil on the veggies. Coconut oil. Sea salt, peppers, good spices. Some berries. Nuts and seeds. Fermented foods like natural pickles and kimchi, kombucha, kvass, fermented fruits (maybe even some alcohol if you can handle in small quantities). I believe in raw milk or fermented dairy (good quality yogurt) and some cheese but not every day. You wouldn’t miss sugar if you roast a tray of onions and garlic every day. It’s better than candy. Oh, and I believe 85% chocolate is no longer candy: it’s a high fiber food with lots of antioxidants and benefits, so have a few squares of that if desired.

And then supplements known to have a positive effect on that kind of cancer as desired.

As well as otherwise not taking in carcinogens AS FAR AS WE CAN. No dry cleaning, no commercial laundry products, no household cleaners filled with toxic fragrances, no pesticides sprayed at home, remove off gassing flooring or furniture, no new car until it’s done offgassing, etc. Clean source of water with no fluoride, etc.

That is what I would do.

Thank you. An old friend called me recently. His mother was feeling unwell and went to the hospital on a Wednesday. Two days later on Friday she passed away. It was AML. It’s a terrible and fast moving cancer. But, we do live in inspiring times for new cancer research and prophylactic meds. Because of fast acting dr’s I’m here. A donor stem cell transplant was needed because an aggressive mutation. (No baking Aida in the world would have fixed me. I can’t believe what I read sometimes).

Glad you got through it so well. My buddy had a rough time when he had his BMT. He was in and out of the Hospital for nearly a Year, but he made it through.

While my CLL is currently treatable, I also have MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome) which will probably require a Bone Marrow Transplant if it becomes more aggressive.

MDS has a habit of morphing into Acute Leukemia, so my Oncologist is keeping an eye on it.

The same time I was told my CLL was in Remission I was told that I also had MDS. I told my Oncologist that I didn’t realize he was having a BOGO Sale.

https://nutritionfacts.org is a website I find useful. Mostly short videos to make research studies accessible to the public. Run by an MD.

here’s part of his commentary on cancer and nutrition:

“Cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death in the United States, and diet may be the leading cause of cancer. The balance of evidence suggests that a whole food, plant-based diet may help prevent, treat, slow, and even reverse cancer progression. It’s never too late to start eating healthier, as cancer risk may drop after starting a plant-based diet at any age.

“Plant-based diets may be effective because they lower methionine intake, inhibit angiogenesis, intercept carcinogens and increase fiber and antioxidants. Populations eating diets centered on whole plant foods have lower rates of cancer. Eating lots of fruits and vegetables—at least nine daily servings—may boost detoxifying enzymes, lower inflammation, lower cholesterol and make for healthier bowel movements, ridding the body of excess estrogen and cholesterol.

“Research studies have focused on many specific foods associated with anti-cancer properties. These include many kinds of fruits, legumes, spices, teas and coffees, vegetables and nuts.

“Consumption of animal products, on the other hand, appears to increase the risk of cancer. Research has shown an association between increased risk of cancer and the consumption of certain foods like cooked meats, dairy, eggs, smoked fish and poultry.

“What’s behind this increased cancer risk? It may be the inflammatory Neu5Gc molecule found in meat. Certain tumors thrive in an inflammatory setting. The insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) may also been linked to cancer. Heme iron found in the blood and muscle tissue of animal foods may also increase risk of cancer, as may the chemical pollutants in meat, which can lead to premature puberty, putting children at higher risk for cancer later in life.

I disagree that there is no room for animal proteins and fats in our diet. All studies have used commercial feedlot meat and dairy. We are built to eat animals but healthy ones. However, one or two servings of animal protein is plenty in a day. Eggs from pastured chickens living a real chicken life are like perfect food. The entire egg, eaten together.

But yes, our main calories should come from plants. Our bacteria biome is essential and we must feed those babies when we eat. They are as important as we are, cell wise, to our health. One easy way: bake a tray full of potatoes. Chop and pan cook them sliced to eat with your meals, or slice for potato salads. Cooked and cooled white potatoes (go for organic and eat the skin too) have a lot of resistant starch, which our best gut bugs thrive on.

Holly - I don’t know what kind past ‘Acute.’ Seems like they can do a lot - ‘Curable with treatment’ the diagnosis was. BUT ‘dead within 2 weeks - 2 months without treatment.’ There is a chasm in between those two things.

People that give up and turn to “traditional medicine” do die most of the time.

The naturopaths usually get patients that have wasted their best chance with alopathy first, yet they still usually manage to achieve a cure, or at least a significant extension of life.

Tragedy is the word.

You body’s normal pH is 7.40 with a range of 7.35 to 7.45

Your body has sophisticated acid-base control systems to maintain that pH and it’s going to fight any attempt to alter it.

pH readings outside of the normal range, acidosis and alkalosis, are usually the result of serious respiratory or metabolic illness.

You can also get alkalosis as a side effect from some medications, including diuretics. If you like the sensation of hyperventilating and panic attacks then go for it. But it won’t affect cancer and it’s cruel to give people false hope by telling them that it will.
