A man who was born in Canada, became a U.S. citizen, and stayed married to the same woman for almost 70 years died today. A true cultural icon of a better time, Monty Hall is gone now.
Thanks for the Village trip. That was a hoot.
RIP. My whole world lies waiting behind door number three.
There’s got to be a joke in here...
Monty is standing at the pearly gates......
Hall was a radio analyst for the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League during the 195960 season.
Hall was born Monte Halparin in Winnipeg to Orthodox Jewish parents, Maurice Harvey Halparin,[3] who owned a slaughterhouse, and Rose (née Rusen).[4] He was raised in Winnipeg’s north end,[5] where he attended Lord Selkirk School (Elmwood, Winnipeg), and, later St. John’s High School.[6] Hall graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Manitoba, where he majored in chemistry and zoology.
On September 28, 1947, Hall married a distant cousin, Marilyn Doreen Plottel (May 17, 1927 June 5, 2017); the two had been introduced by a mutual cousin, Norman Shnier, the previous year. They became United States citizens in 1949.
Damn straight, and Monty was married to the same woman for seventy years who passed just three months before him. RIP Monty!
Bob Barker (age 93) and Peter Marshall (age 91) are still around.
i think I recall him wearing plaid suits. I always liked how he interacted with the people, his personality with them, he kept it very entertaining and family fun unlike some hosts who are over the top obnoxious in ways.
Good clean fun.
Get your pets spayed and neutered.
St. Peter will ask if he wants Gate #1 or gate #2?
When TV was GREAT.
Last night I found a cable channel that shows re-runs of Johnny Carson. 10-11:30 overnight.
Guests were Orson Bean, who spoke about long haired men being “sissies”, and Jack Palance, who told stories of getting drunk while performing Broadway plays. All the while, Carson sitting behind the desk smoking cigarettes, making pithy sexual innuendo about another female guest in a low cut gown.
it was wonderful, refreshing, and sad to think what passes for entertainment now.
Funniest odd couple was “let’s make a deal” with Monty Hall.
Wow, he lived to 96! He always seemed like a nice, decent man. I’ve always liked his daughter, Joanna Gleason, too.

RIP.
How ironic. Monty Hall, a nice Jewish boy, died on the holiest day of the year. When Jews atone for their sins and say to God “let’s make a deal”.
