High ratings for a single game cannot off-set a season-long drop-off in the overall viewership of NFL football.

The Playoffs were the reason most of America didn’t care squat about the government shutdown. Those that weren’t watching football (the ladies) were watching Victoria on PBS.

Highest ratings for the year, yes. But also down from previous years, when the trend was up for a long time. The NFL is in trouble, whether or not they want to admit it. But the League is also far from dead, whether or not those who despise traitors want to admit it.

Our winter home is a few hours from Jax. Normally, there would be guys bouncing off the walls in excitement last week. Silence.
I cut short a conversation yesterday by simply saying “I’m a veteran”. The group went silent. They get the idea.

I am a woman and I love football. Only watched college this fall/winter. BUT, I had read (outside the embarrassment of the Jags in London) the 4 teams left were the teams that didnt take a knee in the recent games. I did watch the Patriots/Jaguars game. Tom Brady is a wonder to behold! I was unhappy that the Pats seemed to be struggling, but In the back of my mind was the last Superbowl. I BELIEVED they could come back.....and they did. I will be so sad when Brady retires. He should get an award for The Best Playmaker Ever in the NFL. My BFF is from Philadelphia. I told her I wouldnt root against the Eagles as they have never won a Super Bowl......but I look forward to watching Brady one more time this year.

I'm not reading that it did as well, or nearly as well, as either Championship Game last year. Comparing it to the Super Bowl is absurd.

Hey BLM/NFL thugs this is great news for you because we caved right? I’m sure these halfwits believe this but it just shows they are still rolling down hill.
I’m having a party on the day of the Patriot Bowl but we aren’t watching.

I’m not surprised it took Patriots to bring the fans back to the NFL for the playoffs.

Remember all that talk of the NFL losing viewership?
Yeah - because it's true. The Pats-Jaguars game may have been the highest rated TV show of the year, but that does nothing to change the fact that it was still among the lowest rated conference championship games in a decade, or the fact that the Vikings-Eagles game was also among the lowest rated conference championship games in years, or the fact that NFL viewership in general has declined drastically.
Anyone whistling past the NFL graveyard is welcome to do so - NFL advertisers are not, and will be driving the NFL's TV revenue downward.

Reasonable that some might want to see if a Cinderella team would beat the Cheatriots. That did not occur — likely the Cheaties continue to steal their opponents’ signals, hack into their comms, and bug the visiting team locker room.
To: edzo4
There was a 99.9% chance that I was not going to watch any of the Super Bowl. The NFL’s refusal to accept the AmVets ad was the last nail in the coffin.
To: edzo4
What’s with the talking heads calling it Super Bowl “el eye eye”? Good thing the “Super Bowl” part isn’t in cursive or they’d be totally lost.
