Researchers from the International Agency for Research on Cancer say that bacon acts as a bit of a double whammy in that it is both a red meat and a processed meat.
In a question-and-answer session, a committee of scientists from The World Health Organization explained how exactly red and processed meats are carcinogens.
According to the most recent estimates by the Global Burden of Disease Project, an independent academic research organization, about 34,000 cancer deaths per year worldwide are attributable to diets high in processed meat, scientists said, adding that diets high in red meat could be responsible for 50,000 cancer deaths per year worldwide.

What is this double whammy they are talking about saying bacon is both a red meat and a processed meat? It is a white meat that is only red because of processing so it is basically the same as ham.

There is a correlation that both types of meat, red and processed, can increase the risk of colorectal, pancreatic, stomach, and prostate cancer to varying degrees. However, evidence of this is still not conclusive.
Stupid article. Correlation is NOT causation. Moreover it is the WHOs effort to get first world countries to stop eating meat and start eating third world diets.

I seem to remember years ago, the traditional eggs, bacon and coffee was supposed to be unhealthy. Then the Med community reversed their stand.
Give it 10 years and the researchers will be telling you to eat bacon; because the stuff in it kills cancer not causes it.

Quite correct. If you eat 300 lbs per day, every day, for 50 years, you MIGHT get cancer. So says the UN, a noted expert on all things...
Until next week, when some jerkwater Khazak researcher proves that 400 kilos per day will make you immortal... (At, least, that what he determined, by extrapolation, by a study of his 25 kilo white rat that can't get out of his cage...)
This won't stop Rep. Goofus(D), of California, from ramming thru a bill banning pig farming.
