Prosecutors Monday released video of a Stillwater bail agent fatally shooting one of her clients last year at her office.

Chasity Dawn Carey was charged with first-degree murder after the shooting. On Friday, Payne County jurors acquitted Carey, 42, of Drumright, in the Aug. 9 shooting.

At trial, Carey testified she shot the client, Brandon James Williams, 38, of Stillwater, in self-defense. She and her 19-year-old son, Justin Henderson, were attempting to take Williams, who was free on bail, back into custody at the time.

Carey testified Williams attempted to grab her gun before fleeing out her office window. She said she beat Williams to the gun and turned to fire just as he was going out the window. She shot Williams in the back.

Carey's son set up his GoPro camera in the office moments before Williams arrived that day.

Watch the video. 2:55

Judging only from the video I do not see how the bail agent got away with it.

She shot Williams in the back.

I'd be in trouble for that.

Wasn’t this the plot of a Tarantino movie?

Jackie Brown? Awesome flick! Love Pam Grier. The basis of Austin Powers "Foxy Cleopatra".

She was very nonchalant about it. Even her son was surprised.

And yes, you or I would have been convicted.

Out on bail and he had to out on handcuffs for questioning? I don’t get it but the camera setup was for a reason.

...

Not necessarily. If someone can still be a threat shooting them in the back can be legal.

One less piece of flotsam in the human gene pool. Good on the jury.

This has been kicked around on FR a couple of times as well on a couple of gun boards I frequent. This is also somewhat local to me so people talk about such things on local Facebook boards. The most frequent theory is that the DA was friendly to the bail agent since she ensures her clients show up for court. Therefore, he “overcharged” with the 1st degree murder charge where the jury couldn’t back up to a 2d degree or manslaughter alternative. He knew the case couldn’t meet 1st degree and the jury would return the not guilty verdict because they couldn’t check all the blocks.

It didn't look like self defense, but, as usual, it was a story missing the elephant in the room.

In this case, for what crime was Brandon Williams in the office of a bail bondsman?

What was Williams history?

I wasn't at the trial, but suspect the defense attorney convinced the jury that Williams was a waste of air.

If the video was all the jurors ever saw of heard, that would be telling. My guess is the jurors heard more.

The jury was probably disgusted with the way he took off his shoe and was picking his foot.

From another article:

Before closing arguments in the trial, prosecutors asked the judge to give jurors the option of finding Carey guilty of first-degree manslaughter. The judge denied the request so jurors were told to determine guilt only for the charge of first-degree murder.

...

She got away with it because she was overcharged.

I saw a video a while ago of a robbery in a barber shop. The robber was shot dead in the back. But in that case he was armed and sill in the shop. It was a legal shoot.

Police said Williams was arrested in late July 2017 and charged with three counts of second-degree burglary, as well as possession of marijuana.

Austin Powers III was the absolute WORST movie I have ever seen. Beats Godfather III by a mile.

Its just murder. Obviously second degree or manslaughter depending on where she shot him. In the head would be murder. Somewhere else may be manslaughter. First degree would be hard. That’s planning the murder. Certainly the video does not show it. But all those people who respond to the quality of the victim rather than his right to live or at least her lack of rights to end his life, are ethically challenged.
