Halsey Taylor is one of the leading manufacturers of drinking fountains today. Company founder Halsey W. Taylor invented the non-squirting drinking fountain. In 1896, Taylor's father died from typhoid fever. This illness is principally spread through contaminated drinking water. Several years later, while working as a plant superintendent for the Packard Motor Car Company, Taylor realized numerous workers were becoming sick with dysentery. He believed contaminated drinking water was the chief reason for the spreading illness.

Taylor determined to develop a drinking fountain that was sanitary and would not contribute to the spreading of various illnesses. By 1912, he had developed a drinking fountain that he claimed was much more sanitary. He began to manufacture the drinking fountains at his hometown of Warren, Ohio. Taylor continued to improve his product, and during World War I, he invented the "Double Bubbler" drinking fountain. This fountain dispensed two streams of water in an arc. Previously, drinkers commonly had to place their mouths on or near the faucet, helping spread germs. With Taylor's drinking faucet, the arc of water allowed drinkers to be several inches away from the faucet, reducing the spread of illnesses.

With the invention of the Double Bubbler, demand soared for Taylor's drinking fountains. During the 1920s and 1930s, Taylor's company, which was named Halsey Taylor, manufactured more than eighty percent of the drinking fountains in the United States. Halsey Taylor continues to manufacture fountains today, although the company is now located in Oak Brook, Illinois.

My four legged son, Samson (5-month’s old, pit-bull) talk’s a lot, the only problem, I haven’t figured out what he’s saying. Love’s being the center of attention at puppy class. I get so embarrassed, he never shut’s up.

My dog as a youth loved to go to the local park with my sister and me because she could put her paws up on the always-on drinking fountain to get a drink. Adults in the park would comment on how she knew to do that and I certainly hadn’t taught her. She was a herding dog mix with such a natural intelligence that we never really “taught” her anything, she just knew. She was the primary reason our parents let us “free-range” the way we did in the 60s because the dog was always there to protect us. Plus it was a medium-sized town in KS of about 12,000.

Back on topic - they recently replaced one of the hallway drinking fountains at work. The new one has a normal drinking outlet with a push valve plus a proximity sensor that allows you to place a mug or bottle under the spigot for a refill. It’s easier than trying to fill it from the normal-style fountain.

I think if der Beast was taught how to use a drinking fountain, she would have been a smarter dog.

Your dog is reading your body language. They are experts at it.

Our lab/golden mix has the same ability when it comes to Mrs. Mad’s activities. Spooky how well that dog can read her.

Still does not prevent many slobs from putting their mouths around the whole apparatus. Drink from it at your own risk.

Our male Dobie talks and sometimes you can even understand him. “Momma, i want my ball.” Honest to God. His sister just looks at him like “Give it up.”

I remember those. Then it was found the companies could save on their water bill by decreasing the pressure making the water barely dribble out.

Low water pressure can be dangerous . It promotes contamination seeping into the lines.

Drink beer.

A friend of mine used to work for Stroh's Brewery in Detroit before they closed. He said they had beer dispensers all over the plant that employees could take advantage of whenever they wanted.......
