I knew Seattle was no longer a place for me when I met with Debora Juarez the District 5 City Council member I had voted for.(snip)
I told my council member that Northgate, my home, had seen a noticeable increase in litter and graffiti. To my dismay, she seemed to suggest these issues were someone elses job, not hers. So, I moved on to a bigger issue: homelessness.
When I first moved to Seattle 14 years ago, to attend the University of Washington, homelessness essentially didnt exist at Northgate.(snip) Additionally, the conditions in such camps are often atrocious not only are the homeless more likely to be victims of violent crime, they are susceptible to infectious disease(snip)
I believe strongly that it is not compassionate to leave people who are unable or unwilling to care for themselves to suffer and die on the street. Because many (but certainly not all) homeless people struggle with mental illness or drug addiction, I suggested that Seattle find a way to make it easier to provide treatment to these troubled souls involuntarily, if need be. It could literally save their lives.
Juarez exclaimed, What is this? Nazi Germany?
Appalled in part because my grandparents survived Nazi Germany I got up and walked out.

The $15 minimum wage has added gasoline to the fire.

But stubborn facts and a hurting middle class dont seem to faze the City Council, which seems far more concerned about issues over which it has zero control such as climate change and foreign policy than it does about issues over which it has at least a modicum of control, such as the cost of living, homelessness, crime, traffic and potholes. For our City Council, virtue signaling is more important than governing.

Last year I had an employee from Seattle that worked in law enforcement and later for a public utility. He said he made around $80K a year and paid in house payment and property taxes roughly $35K a year. He said the cost of living is insane there especially compared to southeast Kentucky.
He was a good guy but because of family issues had to move back to Seattle. He hated the expenses but loved the weather. The humidity of Kentucky about killed him.
Wherever he moves, he’s going to bring the same leftist mentality with him.
Some people responding to the article have pointed out that help is often refused because part of the deal is getting treatment for addiction and staying off drugs. So obviously offering voluntary treatment is not putting a dent in the problem.
Alex Berezow, you voted for the far leftists that have made it impossible for the Middle Class to remain in Seattle. Congratulations in having a big hand in that consequence. Have you learned anything from the experience? Are you going to a better place and vote again for far leftists so as to destroy your new city too?
Then he will find he left a party that keeps its horrible promises for one that breaks its wonderful promises. Either way to both (at least at city and state level) he will seen as the cash cow to make their promise to their cronies come true.
In Seattle, what do you expect for only $850k? The following is from a realtor’s website:
“There are currently 28 fixer upper homes for sale in Seattle at a median listing price of $725K.”
One of them looked okay for $800k. Only 1,000 sq ft but a large lot on a steep hill with probably a nice view. Of course the $800k is just for the property, and then one still has to spend money to tear down the old house before you can rebuild.
Amazon was scheduled to construct one of their new headquarters there but now has put it on hold. The reason is that the city council has decided to put a "head tax" on company employees. The tax would be 26 cents per employee-hour and would fund free housing for the homeless.
Left San Francisco two years ago, good move, leaving San Diego in two more years, headed back to South Texas which I hope is a great move.
One of the comments:
“Left the US a decade ago.... because of people just like Alex. Nasty, awful selfish people who peddle their ‘compassion’ as they want to see the indigent rounded up and locked away. I have lived all over the US and in several places in the world, and the US is clearly in permanent decline. Why? The Church of Capitalism has been a cancer on the country and mankind. People like Alex in one breath complain how both their property values go down because of the homeless, but that it’s also too expensive to buy property and live in Seattle.... Well, which is it? Because these are mutually exclusive points.
There is no ‘upper class, middle class and lower class’. There is in a Capitalist economy, only a Capital Class that owns the means of production and distribution, or the Labor Class that does all of the work and pays all of the taxes. That’s it. Alex is clearly Labor, but has so successfully internalized the values of his Capitalist Masters that he doesn’t understand his real place in society... to harass poorer people in his own class.
Want to improve things? Raise taxes to 99.99% on all wealth over 1 million and redistribute it back. End the Pentagon corporate welfare/jobs program scheme and spend the taxes on the tax payers. Jettison vile third world terror states like Israel and manage internal problems.
This is not Democrat v Republican, this is Humans v Antihumans.”
I’m glad this person left the U.S. or so she says. Many more like her still here.
Parts of Oregon is great, but Portland is a liberal cesspool. The bad thing is Portland and Seattle elect their respective state’s politicians and make the laws.
By the way. The latest is to blame the homeless problem on the high rents and housing costs. While I’m sure that there are SOME homeless that are upstanding folks that just can’t pay the rent - most of them have drug or mental issues. Many (about 13%) are from out-of-state that come here for all the benefits provided to the homeless.
And these idiots wonder why spending more money on homelessness doesn’t solve the problem.
I grew up in the SF bay area, once a beautiful place, now ruined by liberals. People pay 4,000 just to rent an apartment in SF and have to check a poop map before going out.

You are just figuring this out, now? Liberalism is a mental disease, not one of biological form via virus, bacteria, trauma or bad DNA. No, it is one devoid of facts, of truth, like a spoiled brat teenager who has not faced the consequences of a willful stubbornness.
The best, perhaps only cure is a stark rush of reality.
E.Tennessee is very nice with plenty of lakes, a very moderate climate, and a lot of Bubbas/Bubbettes. Generally conservative
Yes, I heard about that. Talk about suicide.
The Bible discusses compassion on the poor, but it also says that if a man does not work, he shall not eat.
Someone who is poor but is trying is worthy of far more compassion than some 19 year old guy with long hair, smoking a cigarette with an armload full of tattoo’s holding a sign telling me I need to give him money.
For that guy, get a job.
About your human pigeons & the Bible
2 Thessalonians 3:10
For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
deadbeats are nothing new....
Hi Yaelle, please add my voice to the chorus of those advising against moving to Seattle. While I don’t live in Seattle proper that’s at the heart of the issue - what they do taints everything around them.
The singular recommendation is for medical care - they have some of the finest care facilities in the world (Fred Hutchinson Cancer center for example). The downside(s) is obvious - significant amounts of crime, high cost of living, a cold & wet climate, and (maybe most of all) the resident SeattLunatics suck!
Keep your eyes for this flag as well...popular in rural areas.
