After 14 years, I’ve had it. I’m leaving Seattle
Seattle Times ^ | 4/30/2018 | Alex Berezow

I knew Seattle was no longer a place for me when I met with Debora Juarez — the District 5 City Council member I had voted for.(snip)

I told my council member that Northgate, my home, had seen a noticeable increase in litter and graffiti. To my dismay, she seemed to suggest these issues were someone else’s job, not hers. So, I moved on to a bigger issue: homelessness.

When I first moved to Seattle 14 years ago, to attend the University of Washington, homelessness essentially didn’t exist at Northgate.(snip) Additionally, the conditions in such camps are often atrocious — not only are the homeless more likely to be victims of violent crime, they are susceptible to infectious disease(snip)

I believe strongly that it is not compassionate to leave people who are unable or unwilling to care for themselves to suffer and die on the street. Because many (but certainly not all) homeless people struggle with mental illness or drug addiction, I suggested that Seattle find a way to make it easier to provide treatment to these troubled souls — involuntarily, if need be. It could literally save their lives.

Juarez exclaimed, “What is this? Nazi Germany?”

Appalled — in part because my grandparents survived Nazi Germany — I got up and walked out.

(snip)

The $15 minimum wage has added gasoline to the fire.

(snip)

But stubborn facts and a hurting middle class don’t seem to faze the City Council, which seems far more concerned about issues over which it has zero control — such as climate change and foreign policy — than it does about issues over which it has at least a modicum of control, such as the cost of living, homelessness, crime, traffic and potholes. For our City Council, virtue signaling is more important than governing.

Loved the Knoxville area when I visited beautiful waterways and countryside, the Bubbettes made a lasting impression. Born in Austin raised in Dallas, all the family is here.

Parts of Oregon is great, but Portland is a liberal cesspool.

Used to go to a Christian apologetics conference in Bend and loved it. Central Oregon is nice with fairly conservative people. But now I can't justify even a little tax revenue going to the Beast in Salem.

People mostly suck down here too. Lol. But we don’t have any rain. The weather sounds like a plus.

My daughter lived in Corvallis for several years. Such beautiful country. I loved going to the Oregon beaches too, beautiful doesn’t even begin to describe.

Just read the comments to the Seattle Times story. The Lefty Rats have no clue to the Venezuelan system they have bought into. The smart ones are fleeing the sinking ship for their children's sake.

Raleigh, Nashville, Tampa, Dallas and Phoenix are the only sane places that have an NHL team and I’m beginning to wonder about Raleigh and Nashville.

Seattle is a lovely city (they brew great beer there also) and Seattle had decided to destroy itself with insane progressive liberalism. It is most sad when cities decide suicide is good.

Yeah I wanted Nashville but one son is so dead set against it. I like it there. He wants Denver or environs. It’s a thought. They want to stay here, so maybe Orange County or some place outside LA.... still up in the air. You sure don’t get as much house here and all conservatives are closeted. It’s not as bad in OC or Santa Clarita.

Anywhere with a view in OC is bizarre dollars, some of the formerly nice inland towns have gone full Cholo. If you want to be coastal CA and anywhere near a city that’s about it.

There are pockets of conservatism even in Marin County, pretty determined and outwardly visible conservatism too, they’ve about had it. In the horsey sections.

They are on their way to ruining Virginia too.

The author moves to a place that he likes. Votes to bring in ideologically compatible politicians, and then leaves, to take his ideology to another place where he will vote in radically incompetent leftists to trash another city.

And so on.

Homelessness is not a city problem, it is a national problem and will only be solved when then illegal immigration is stopped and illegals are deported.

So suggestions that we should get people off the streets, involuntarily if necessary, is like Nazi Germany? Really??

Well, "this is like Nazi Germany" is the all-time #1 most favorite cop-out all over the place. Even on conservative websites sometimes...not naming any. Nope.

...They might get an NHL team (we won’t move where there isn’t one)...

Consider purchasing some sort of TV and streaming source. Then you cam watch them all from better vantage points than those in the stands. You could save many hours sitting in parking lots and gobs on money.

Yet another horrible liberal who destroys something and then hates it when it is destroys. Most importantly, he takes NO responsibility for helping the destruction of that city.

Liberals really are horrible people.
