Russian scientists on Monday showed off a prehistoric puppy, believed to be 18,000 years old, found in permafrost in the country’s Far East.

Discovered last year in a lump of frozen mud near the city of Yakutsk, the puppy is unusually well-preserved, with its hair, teeth, whiskers and eyelashes still intact.

“This puppy has all its limbs, pelage – fur, even whiskers. The nose is visible. There are teeth. We can determine due to some data that it is a male,” Nikolai Androsov, director of the Northern World private museum where the remains are stored, said at the presentation at the Yakutsk’s Mammoth Museum which specializes in ancient specimens.

We can determine due to some data that it is a male

Giving him a leg-up on human beings who would come along 18 millenia later.

I had to look up Podengo....cute...would it be a good dog for older people who don’t want to walk a dog in rain and snow?

No, Podengos are traditionally for professional dog breeders to make other breeds.

Fascinating lively little killers who could care less about being a pet is what they are.

Mine is about 12 pounds and takes down cottontail rabbits here on the farm, shakes them hard to break their back then swallows them whole, head first, feet down.

Get a Boston Terrier. You will not be sorry. When you go to look at the litter don’t get the one that wants to jump up on you. Get the quiet guy in back. They are unbelievably affectionate and eager to communicate.

Surely, this dog/wolf can be cloned. But it might need to spend its life in a bubble, not having immunity to modern diseases.

This older person just had to replace our Golden
Retriever, Max, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge suddenly about 6 years ago. Max, a rescue, was probably 2 when we got him and probably 12 when we lost him. We adopted him 17 years ago. Do the math. I was remembering Max at age 12, his predecessor, Terra, another Golden who died at 15. I opted for a Golden Puppy, Riley. I am 15 years older, no longer swift of foot, nor eager to be challenged. Riley is incorrigible. He’s flunked 3 obedience classes, wants to be boss of everything, and has shown no sign of slowing down at 3. I love him dearly, but I have to admit that my first dog trainer was right when she said that we’d adopted the wrong dog. He’s mine forever, but I wish that I had a fenced yard where he could run free. I wish that he wasn’t so strong that I fear that he will knock, or pull, me over. I wish that I were younger in order to give him the life that he deserves. And I wish that he weren’t so d—d smart that he can read my mind! Get a small dog, or a cat. LOL

In our lives we’ve given away 4 dogs, because it became obvious we could no longer appropriately care for them...it was hard, but we have no regrets because we found them homes where they could get the exercise and care they needed...(mostly it was because of job changes.) It is just sometimes the best for ALL.
