Free Republic history

I noticed some discussion of Free Republic history, that the year 1998 is important. I looked at my user history and I have been a member since 9/98. I am pretty sure I was a user for a while before I became a member. When I arrived it seemed to me that this had all been here for a while.

All this realization, made me wonder about the history of the Free Republic, and I can't seem to find a FAQ about how this all came to be.

Am I missing this, or can we start it here.

I want to know how this all came to be, what were the problems and issues that came up alone the way. Maybe even some stories about people who have come and gone, who have made an impact here (good or bad).

JimRob posted those threads a couple freepathons ago and I bookmarked them on my profile page. That's how I could find them so easily for you. I think the idea of having a FAQ section like you suggested about the history and purpose of FR is a good idea. There is some information on the main FR page, but not the detail that's contained in these threads.

I'm pinging JimRob so he can take a look at this thread and your idea.

It's an important year as in may valin became a freeper and immediately the site became THE PLACE TO BE. < /ego>
