When the air is clear, and the sun is setting, Mt. Rainier does really look that great 'pink' color, when the sun is slowly going down...when we are visiting Mt. Rainier Natl Park, we like to try to leave when the sun is setting, as seeing it in person is just breathtaking...

Snow is on top of Mt. Rainier year round...there are many glaciers on top of Mt. Rainier...if you visit Rainier in the late summer, when most of the winter snow has melted, you can see the glaciers...one thing about glacial snow, is that when you view it, it has a very distinctive bluish tint to it...

When you visit Mt. Rainier, before the winter snows have melted, what you see on top, is fresh winter snow on top of glacial snow...and it looks different from in the summer...the winter snow is very white, and very sparkly...

But whenever you visit there, its always beautiful...I just feel lucky living within a 2 hrs drive of Mt. Rainier...and when I cannot get up there, on a clear day, you can still see Mt. Rainier, even from here in Olympia, because its just do durned big and tall, and can be viewed from very great distances...

those Indian names are interesting
when I spent summers in Adirondacks as kid
we drove thru lots of towns in NY State with Indian names too
Neet's name Oneida, I thnk is town in NY State named for Oneida Indians
the other names for towns were Dutch, cause the Dutch settled NY State
I remember Canojoharie (sp?)
I think that is Dutch name

Luly finally woke up, I am feeding her Krafts singles as I post

Actually this whole area, from Nothern California, clear up to Canada, has the Cascade Range, which is volcanic in nature, and it is strewn with glaciers..there is of course, the magnificent Mt. Shasta down in Northern California...and then Mt. Hood near Portland Oregon...then there is Mt. St. Helens, Mt Adams, Mt Rainier, and Mt Baker, all huge peaks in Washington State...

If one drives up the I5 corridor, from Northern California to Canada, you will be able to see all these wonderful peaks...I would assume that Jasper Natl Park is probably nearby to the area of the I5 corridor, once one gets into Canada...my knowledge of Canadian geography and its mountain peaks is rather limited tho....

hi andysmom
I just noticed JimRob posted thread saying the lawsuit against FR by WashPost is settled
that is great news cause I think FR was hemorrhaging money to pay for lawyers
plus the anxiety of being sued is horrendous
this is happy day for our forum

Well, my dear sweet Dizzy finally showed up after his day long siesta...he seems his usual self now, rubbing up against my legs and wanting to be given his treats, followed by a long petting session...hopefully he was just tired for some reason, and just slept the day away...

And I still have not eaten dinner, and am getting hungry for some of my Copper River Salmon....

So I guess, I should get going...its almost 8:30 now, and its still very light and very sunny outside...It will be another 1 1/2 hour before it gets dark...

Let me be the first to wish you a Happy First Day of Summer, Palo(since I am always behind everyone else getting on DD, everyone that is except Westy)...so if I wish you Happy First Day of Summer now, you can hold that wish for when you wake up tomorrow morning...

Say hi to the lovely Lulu, the classic music lover Happy, and of course the caving man, Bill

See Ya tomorrow...

I find your post fascinating
I did not know any of that
I have heard of Mt Shasta of course
the New Age makes many claims about who lives deep inside and underneath Mt Shasta
a chain of mountains which is volcanic like you describe is powerful
it sounds like you live amidst both beauty and power
no wonder your area has so much energy
