Dyan won the game of Phase 10.. Now she's cooking supper.. My goodness it's wonderful to have someone else cooking. It's better than going to a restaurant.. Baked Haddock, fresh green beans, Rice Pilaf and "Home grown tomatoes.." Life is good..

Grannie, your dinner sounds delicious, and I am sure its all the more delicious, because someone else is doing the work...you have all my favorites...haddock, fresh green beans, rice pilaf, and home grown tomatoes...I just had to repeat it, it sounds so marvelous...

Ohhh.. Mom.. and I am not cooking.. That's the best part.. I don't get out of cooking too often, so this is a real treat, and Dyan is a wonderful cook. I am having cocktails and completely enjoying myself.. Sigh.. heaven...

I miss the kids when I go to Fl. for so long,... but it still comes down to man and wife.. You have to do what makes you happy. The kids have had us a loooong time.. Now it's our time. You will find that out when you get that RV all spiffed up and on the road.. You have to have fun with the kids or without them, and make it good...

I agree totally...we have the kids for a time, and then it seems before we know it, they are on their own, with lives of their own...so man and wife had better be able to enjoy life, on their own, as a couple....

When Andy first went away to college, I cried and cried for about a month, I missed him so very much....Michael had died years before, so when Andy went away to college, I was truly without a kid around the house, and things seemed so very bleak and empty without my boys...but as that first month without Andy went its way, I was feeling better and adjusting to not having him around...

When he came home at Christmas, I was so very happy to see him...he was to be home for three weeks...let me tell you, after two weeks, I was ready for him to go back...

It was also kind of a small strain, when Andy moved in with us for two months after he returned from his world trip...we were delighted to have him stay with us till he got his bearings, but it was weird having ones grown up child come back home to live...

I actually think that separation from Andy is harder on Dom that it is on me...I think thats because when they were infants and little kids, Dom was always working or in school...I was a breastfeeding mom, so those early months were just so intense with my nursing....

Then Dom joined the army, when the boys were small..and then my role with the boys increased all the more...Army life for an airborne soldier, is not conducive to that soldier spending enormous amts of time with their kids...they are always in the field, TDY, overseas, training in other states...so that I became both mom and dad for a long, long time...

Dom, unfortunately missed out on a lot of that growing up time, ,due to the military....thats why I think he actually misses Andy more than I do...I have maximum copious amts of time with Andy when he was growing up, and Dom feels he did not have enough, no fault of his own, tho...

Thats why I like it when sometimes Dom goes up to Seattle by himself, and my two men spend a sports weekend together, without me...often Dom and Andy will do things together, and I opt out, knowing that Dom really needs more time with Andy than I do...

Nonetheless, I am missing Andy, with the holidays approaching...holidays are always time for family, and I guess this is when I most miss Andy, on the loose in Seattle, and of course miss Mike, gone to Heaven...

Kids, they are a true blessing...

Yes.. a man and a woman get married and have kids. Those kids are the main point in their life for years...but you have to have a life together disregarding the kids, because if you raised them half way right they will go on their own and leave you. Then you will be alone together again, and that's when your life begins again.

I know people that devote their time to their kids and grandkids forever. That is not good in my eyes. For one thing, they don't need you or want you, and for another thing it's not the thing to do for your own marriage. If you can't enjoy each other from the first to the last, even tho it might not be heaven, then you have wasted your years and life.

Raise the kids, the best as you can, and pray, and get on with your own life.

Oh, by the way.. I just had one of the best meals of my life. My daughter married a man that doesn't give a damn if he ever eats.. What he was missing, he will never know. My ghod, can that girl cook.. I never enjoyed a meal more than that. She's a honey..

Sure glad you enjoyed your meal....you sound like you just had a heavenly time of it...so glad for you....

I think you are so very correct, about some people devoting way too much of their time to their kids and their grandkids, to where it goes on and on...and that is the point of trying to do a good job with your kids...you should want it, so that they will grow into mature, responsible adults, who no longer need you...nor do they want you butting into their lives at every instant...

Erma Bombeck used to write a lot of columns along that line, with a good dose of humor..she always said, when that child grows up, and you almost cant stand to have them around anymore, thats nature telling you, its time they get out of the nest, and go build their own...

There should be no greater joy, than for a parent to be confident, that their childen can and do survive quite well without you...it shows you did your job as a parent...

And I agree, BigDom and I have had a good time, since Andy has been on his own, and just expect it to get better once we have retired....We may not be as hot blooded, or passionate, or wild as we were when we were younger, but we sure are having a great time, and both still love and appreciate one another...

There is indeed, life and good fun after the kids have grown up and moved away..

Thanks, Loddy....

Truth be told, tho, after that long speech, I still have my days, when I do cry to myself, because I no longer have my 'little men' around....I so loved having small children around, and was just so thrilled with being a mom...

So sometimes, I get out our old pics of the years gone by, when me and BigDom were younger, and the boys, were just cute little boys, who we adored...we had such a good time raising them, and watching them grow, and that time went by so quickly....sometimes I just cry, when I look at those pics...because they recall such a sweet time of my life...Dom and I were just so blessed to have our sweet little guys...

Today, when I look at Andy, so big and grown up, and happy on his own, I am grateful, that hy the grace of God, he turned out so well...but often when I look at him, I long to once again, hold that little boy, that he used to be...

I also, of course, so deeply miss Mike, but he has gone on before the rest of us, and hopefully is waiting for us...but I long to hold him again as well...

What I can say, is that I am ever so grateful that I did have my guys for a while...for a brief time, they were my own, they were my whole life...now Andy belongs to life, and Mike belong to Gods care...but I did have them for a while, and that is everything...

I need to ask you gourmands, what do you add to olive oil for use with crusty french bread? Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks.

What's the three words you never want to hear while making love? "Honey, I'm home." (Ken Hammond)

"I am always looking for meaningful one night stands." (Dudley Moore)

"It's better to be black than gay because when you're black you don't have to tell your mother." (Charles Pierce)
