I have a confession to make.

Sometmes...

...when I'm all alone...

I pull a Bob Dylan CD out from under my matress...

...and I listen to it.

I don't really. I just wanted to shock you.

I first noticed a sudden uptick in Bob Dylan articles maybe a couple of months ago, when instead of Pamela Anderson's breasts or J-Lo's bottom bursting through the National Post masthead there appeared to be a shriveled penis that had spent way too long in the bath. On closer inspection, this turned out to be Bob Dylan's head. He was, it seems, getting ready to celebrate his birthday. For today he turns 60.

Opening line to Mark Steyns masterpiece on Dylan

A must read for any Steyn fan.

Cheers,

that supposedly took place after Hendrix covered "All Along The Watchtower".

Dylan loves to have his songs covered, as the royalty checks do help.

I saw Roger McQuinn in concert about ten years ago, he told a story about Dylan, who had been approached by by a record producer who wanted to record him. Dylan said no, but also told him:

You want something, here:

The river flows
It flows to the sea

"Give that to McQuinn, he'll make something of it."

Song writing is an art and a gift and Dylan is one of the best ever at it.

Actually, I happen to be listening to Miles Davis right now (Bitches Brew). Do you also have an opinion about him?

I'm always inclined to like Dylan. He doesn't seem to take himself as seriously as some celebrities, seems to be a more down to earth guy, doesn't see himself as a god. And writes really good songs, as you noted. Kind of refreshing.
