Next Time, the NRA Will Lose
The Daily Beast's Politics Beast ^ | May 2, 2013 | Michael Tomasky

Posted on 05/02/2013 4:14:09 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

How stupid does the Senate background-check vote look now, I ask the pundits and others who thought it was dumb politics for Obama and the Democrats to push for a vote that they obviously knew they were going to lose. I’d say not very stupid at all. The nosedive taken in the polls by a number of senators who voted against the bill, most of them in red states, makes public sentiment here crystal clear. And now, for the first time since arguably right after the Reagan assassination attempt—a damn long time, in other words—legislators in Washington are feeling political heat on guns that isn’t coming from the NRA. This bill will come back to the Senate, maybe before the August recess, and it already seems possible and maybe even likely to have 60 votes next time.

You’ve seen the poll results showing at least five senators who voted against the Manchin-Toomey bill losing significant support. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire is the only one of the five from a blue state, so it’s probably not surprising that she lost the most, 15 points. But Lisa Murkowski in Alaska lost about as much in net terms. Alaska’s other senator, Democrat Mark Begich, lost about half that. Republicans Rob Portman of Ohio and Jeff Flake of Arizona also tumbled.

Egad. Could it possibly be that those pre-vote polls of all these states by Mayor Bloomberg’s group were ... right? All the clever people pooh-poohed them, because, well, they were done by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, and because it just seemed impossible that 70 percent of people from a red state could support the bill. But the polls were evidently right, or at least a lot closer to right than the brilliant minds who laughed at Joe Manchin and Pat Toomey....

His political analysis is that as time moves voters further from the emotional event that may have driven over reaction, that pressure will increase on those who did not cave last time.

Brilliant!

Just Brilliant!

agreed they will face a daunting task taking all Americas weapons.

but the point is to NOT let it get to that point.

we need to fight from the get go...in the Senate, in the house.

We need the republicans to stop fighting a perpetual defense and go on the offense.

The propagandists think they can yell loud enough to convince the senators and that the tide is turning and the voters that it is inevitable.

The source of this “news”, Public Policy Polling, is wholly owned and operated by the Democrat party.
Both the poll and the article are targeted attacks on the named senators and free advertising for the Democrats.

Let's talk after the 2014 election, Mikey.

The problem all these leftists have is that they need a defined group to demonize.

They were terrified of the Tea Party at the beginning because the Tea Party was just folks coming out of everywhere and they could not define exactly who they were, or put a face on them.

Gun owners are like Tea Party and the left can’t admit why they lose this battle. They cannot understand that every gun owner is not NRA. Gun owners are just Americans of all walks exercising their 2nd amendment rights.

The left may be evil, but they are mostly made up of dimwits. They can’t do anything well except they are good at destruction of all they touch.

Yeah, consider the leftist source. And of course, lefties haven’t yet figured out how to jigger the polling... < /sarc >

Someone please show me how they are going to round-up and confiscate 500 million firearms and trillions of rounds of ammunition from 330 million people.

Easy. Guns for food. You wanna eat?

All the armies, law enforcement personnel and paramilitary forces in the world, even if they were magically transported to America and given rudimentary, pidgin English lessons, couldn't do it in a determined effort of 100 years. PERIOD.

How many of those millions of gun owners have two years worth of food and can keep it safe from their starving neighbors, 24/7?

Our traitorous Senators from Georgia would explain that their vote to end the filibuster was a “strategic” vote. They wanted to force Democrats go on record as supporting the incredibly unpopular (despite what they claim their push-poll shows) bill.

I would rather make sure that crap like that doesn’t make it to the Senate floor.

You're not thinking well. "Mormons, preppers, country folk" have to sleep, nearly always in a spot without backup. I said 24-7 for two years.

That's what the "well regulated militia" is all about: "well regulated" means they get regular practice and sustain an organizational architecture that takes appropriate measures for logistical support. While for decades Americans did maintain their vigilance, we don't do that any more in significant numbers. It's reality. Believe it or not, it's also Biblical.

Yep....they will also come back here and say “I voted for it before I voted against it” or “I voted only for the important one” or “I voted no on the really important one”

They are both traitors to Conservatives, Georgia and to this nation. They aren’t Americans; they are Politicians.

The MSM is pushing big lie and Goebling public opinions.

No opposition voices allowed.

No exposing bloomberg propaganda money.

BTW BLOOMBERG HAS NOT SPENT ONE SINGLE DIME TO ACTUALLY PAY FOR SECURITY AT SCHOOLS. Bloomberg is only waiting for the next death to pounce like a vulture eating carrion.

Nanny Bloomberg wants blood, needs blood, will have blood by design.
