Twilight Zone Meats

I couldn't make this up - I was at the store today and came across this strange looking lunch meat. It looked like, well body parts chunked up and stuck in a package.

Then I noticed the name of the product - it was Hot Head Cheese and it was made by..........

Yes, that is Scott Peterson's fine meats. Kinda morbid but imagine if Laci hadn't been discovered........ DKK

Head Cheese is made by boiling hog's head after butchering, removing from skull, chopping and spicing the meat after straining (historically through cheescloth or muslin) and then either canning or filling sausage skin. Historically, a thrifty use of the hog.

And then there's LUTEFISK. :-)

Also, Scott Petersen is most likely of Swedish or Danish descent. Note that "sen" is used in the name rather than "son", which is more of a Norwegian use.

Not that any of this is particularly relevant. There is still an "Eeeww" factor on this sort of food, unless you know and like it.
