WASHINGTON, March 23 /Christian Wire Service/ -- The 11th Hour Coalition to Save Terri Schiavo's Life will hold simultaneous press conferences -- Wednesday, March 23 -- at 12 noon in Washington, D.C., and Tallahassee, Fla.
This ad hoc partnership of religious and political organizations -- which will gather in front of the White House and the Florida governor's mansion -- will call on President George W. Bush and Gov. Jeb Bush to use their executive powers to protect Terri Schiavo from starvation.
"There are two people in the United States who can save Terri Schiavo's life right now. The president of the United States and the governor of Florida have the authority to use the police services at their disposal to take Terri into protective custody, restore her food and hydration, and arrest anyone who would interfere," said Dr. Paul Schenck, executive director of the National Pro-Life Action Center on Capitol Hill. "For the sake of Terri's life, we cannot afford to wait while the courts dither over jurisdiction."

I heard on the radio this morning that an early CAT/MRI/? scan had showed that Terri's cortex (or SOME part of her brain) had dissolved and her reactions were only minimal responses. Can anyone confirm or refute the dissolved brain thing?
I think Michael Schiavo was smart enough to find himself a fast-talking 'right-to-die' attorney, and he (Schiavo) will soon, sadly, be getting his wish that Terri should pass. I think George Felos (the attorney) and the hospice he's involved with are beneath contempt. And I believe that President Bush and Governor Bush have done all they can within the law and within reason. This has all gone through the courts and judges (corrupt though they may be), and our efforts need to be directed toward making sure CONSERVATIVE judges are put in place...soon!
The difference is that the federal agents who went in and got Elian were enforcing a court order. The courts had ruled that Elian's father was entitled to legal custody, and Elian's family refused to surrender him to the father. There is no court order here that the feds can go in with. In fact, at this juncture, the fed would have to go in IN DIRECT VIOLATION of now both state and federal courts.

You know let's all take a trip up to Washington and rip up the Constitution. While we're at it, turn the Capitol into a bed and breakfast or something. Congress doesn't need anyplace to meet if we're going to have an executive handing down edicts on the whim of the people. One more step and he'll be handing down edicts on his own whims. Sheesh, I realize the emotions are a little high here, but do you people realize what you are actually advocating?!?
But the attorney went in and made the same argument that has lost everytime.

The parent's attorney is at fault this time.
So, you position is that Bush should behave like Clinton. Why not make it complete and hire an intern to give him BJs in the Oval Office, while he's at it?

They are all busy dialing 911 begging the government to break the law and come save her.
If you don't think this is a police state, go look at the front of the hospice
where there are dozens of cop cars and a line of cops, a van with
vicious dogs and a massive police bus.

This may just be my ignorance of law but it seems to me that there is enough room for judicial discretion in this case for any of the courts to rule either way. They seem to be ruling in favor of legal coherence (for once) at the expense of human life.
As over the top as this may sound, President Bush has the legal right to declare her an illegal combatent. The Military would then hold her under UCMJ until someone files a petition of Habeus Corpes and the Judicial Branch reclaims jurisdiction.
I would imagine this could be strechted out for months, and by that time Bethesda would have run as many tests and therapy as they want.

Actually, no. A special prosecutor would have to take the case to the courts. He could not issue any orders of that kind.
It is the very use of the courts to legalize government ordered murder of innocent citizens and the use of law enforcement to prevent any "interferance" with this government ordered murder that constitutes a police state. Governments (and courts) will abuse their power if allowed to by the people. Look at Nazi Germany -- they legalized everything they wanted to do to the Jews. It is the consensus against such abusive action by Government that gives us protection and we have three branches to protect us from any one getting too far out of line. The courts, like the courts during the slavery era, have abdicated their responsibility to uphold first principles of life and it is now up to the other branches to protect innocent life from the corrupt and out of control judiciary.
