Mrs. Fierro stopped by the Shanksville (temporary) Flight 93 Memorial this past week while travelling from State College PA to the 'Burgh.
The place was easy enough to find, and local folks were EXTREMELY polite and helpful in guiding us there. Such a nice difference from the "tolerant" 'Frisco Bay Area.
The photos and video reflect the temporary Memorial, with a permanent one in the the works. Pray God they come up with a better permanent Memorial design than that abominable Red Crescent.
The mood at the temporary Memorial was somber, but informal. Commercial/political displays are banned, though a few slip through. I believe locals are in charge of maintaining the area, including patrolling the actual crash site (a few hundred yards distant from the Memorial).
I think it was tastefully done, overall.

Were you there on 9/11/05?
Cool stuff! Thank you and your wife for going for me when I could not. I did watch the special regarding the flight including many interviews with family. Some of it made me weep like a schoolgirl.

Thanks for posting the pictures, Mr. Fierro. Next time you are near the airport, let's get together for some local fare.

Nice pix - I want to go there myself someday, and I agree completely about the vile red crescent comment!

VERY VERY cool. Thanks for sharing.
Where in the state is Shanksville?
My grandma lives in Franklin (about an hour west of Pittsburgh) and there's talk of going there for thanksgiving. I'm wondering if we could fit a trip to the memorial into our plans.

Cool. I will look into doing that!! For some reason I though it was closer to the Philly side of the state.
