Hunter’s understanding of the Chinese threat has been in my tagline for a long time. Hunter is the only presidential candidate who thoroughly understands the Red China threat; in fact, that’s what I said when I called a talk show a few days ago.

If he’s talling to Nevada, he should tell them to remove the Harry Reid threat, which is a clear and present danger.

It’s a wide open race, might as well back the most conservative man.

Here’s what I’ve been posting lately.

Here’s a recent poll showing Hunter at 4%.

Here’s an intrade link to the forum site discussing how Hunter might be gaining traction.

Here’s one showing Fred at 6%, and discussing why.

Bill Gertz covers the Pentagon. He can be reached at 202/636-3274 or at bgertz@washingtontimes.com.

You might know that Bill Gertz is always writing articles and books on the China threats, so I e-mailed him and asked him to help Duncan Hunter out, and included a snippet of a Hunter quote.

I hope others will join me in contacting Bill Gertz. Gertz has been on many radio shows, including Drudge, Mark Levin, Bob Dornan, et al

With the Democrat Congress cancelling the funding for Rep. Hunter’s double border fence, and W. leading the way for it, I see little possibility of it ever becoming a reality,
because Duncan Hunter cannot win the nomination.

Next the apathetic American people, steeped in their idiotic TV, who do not turn out to hear what the only true conservative candidate has to say about the serious problems we face today which will lead to the death knoll of the nation. The Democratic Congress, and our globalist president are counting on this.

European malaise has drifted across the pond to anesthetize us as the treacherous Left thumbs it’s nose at the Constitution by also voting down English as our national language, and voting to de-fund our troops in the M.E..

It’s all over, folks. Our eyes glazed over when we were warned 20, 30 years ago. too many did not wake up in time to make a difference. So expect huge tax increases, a terrible loss of freedoms, a surge of crime and violence,
even further dumbing down in our school system, inadequate health facilities, fewer good jobs available, food scarcities, maybe even startling inflation as well as deep recession.

These are the tactics of those who would make us a third world nation over night. These are the dreams of the globalist elite to permanently secure their position in society. These are the nightmares coming soon to the American people.

If we wake up before the coming election, to follow a true leader, Duncan Hunter, and elect laymen to serve, not lawyers to rule, in Congress, we may be able to forestall it for a few years. Heck, we might be able to turn things around completely! Will we ever know? Will we even care?

GO DUNCAN HUNTER!

***You’re probably right. All those people calling in to their senators to kill off the amnesty bill (that keeps popping up again like whack-a-mole), and they all only have one vote. I hope they choose wisely. Unfortunately for these voters who disliked amnesty, the big business types seem to have a lot more say in the process of how someone gets elected in this country than was originally planned.

Duncan Hunter Interview with Hugh Hewitt

(snip)

People say you can’t be tough on China because they are so big. I say you can’t ignore China because they are so big. And because of what they are doing.

I watched their military build up. They are building up at double digit pace right now. They are building lots of submarines, buying lots of high end fighter aircraft from the Russians, building about 100 short range ballistic missiles a year. China is stepping into the super power shoes that the Soviet Union left. Now we can have a good relationship with China; but it will have to be a relationship based on American Strength. I think Ronald Reagan proved that to us in our era of conflict and competition with the Soviet Union.

Hugh Hewitt: How many years have you chaired the Armed Services Committee?

Duncan Hunter: I have chaired it for four years. I’ve been on that committee for 26 years.

Hugh Hewitt: And does the Pentagon understand China? Do they come forward and do they talk on the record with the Hill about what China represents for the next generation?

Duncan Hunter: You know this last report on China actually received lots of criticism from the State Department because it was very candid about assessing this enormous growing military strength of China. The assessment of the Pentagon was they are doing so much more then they have to do for self defense. They are building an offensive capability. When they shot that satellite out of space on January 11th, because America’s military eyes are largely in space, that really hurdled a new era of military competition between the U.S. and China in space. Like it or not, if you have to rely on satellites for movement of special forces or army brigades or marine corps divisions, you have to rely on satellites for that, and your satellites are in danger, you are in trouble. So we have our eyes, our military eyes [on China]. Plus a lot of our economic capabilities are reflected through our space apparatus. You have to protect that. We are going to have to spend a lot of money now and take a lot of effort to neutralize what is an aggressive Chinese policy in regard to space.

Hugh Hewitt: Let’s talk about the media and China. I asked you about this on the radio yesterday, how many questions have you had about China in the course of the Campaign. You have been on the trail for how long?

Duncan Hunter: We have had 4 congressional debates now and we have been out campaigning hard this entire year. We had one great question, I think it came from either Brit Hume or one of his team, during the Fox debate in the South Carolina, last question of the debate to me on China. I was able to give, you only have one minute answer, I try to be a master on the compact answers, I laid out that we have this cheating on trade which is stacking up billions to China and they are using this money to arm. This presents a long term challenge to the United States. Maybe not a direct threat; but a military threat is comprised of two things, capability and intent. They certainly are building a capability to cause us a lot of harm. And the intent of China is always difficult to understand.

Those tough old communists that ran the politboro are still running things. We see these generals make wild statements like, “We hope you value L.A. more than you do Taiwan”. That is a thinly veiled threat to nuke L.A. Then there will be a flurry of newspaper statements by people saying well, ‘general so and so didn’t mean it’. Well I hope general so and so is pretty far away from that nuclear trigger. Because that is a wild statement. You see those wild statements that came out of Yunnan Island where the American plane was shot down or was forced down, and the wild statements that came out of there diplomacy core after that were tempered by their trade people. But it shows us there is a element of leadership that is embedded in the Chinese hierarchy that is very aggressive, very anti American and very war like. It is difficult to know which element of the Chinese leadership is going to dominate the government in 5 years.

Cheap Chinese production is doing itself in with all the recalls on Chinese made toys alone. Cheap Mexican labor maybe going by the wayside with the increase in apprehension and deportation of illegals due to the people resoundingly rejecting amnesty for illegals and demanding enforcement of illegal immigration laws.

Not really.

Mexico still offers the Maquiladora system.

Between 2000 and 2003 trading between China and Mexico tripled. Since 2003, Chinese has been investing in areas like Baja California, Sonora, Tamaulipas and Mexico.

China is a master at business affiliations and franchising. I can see China investing in Mexico's Maquiladora System.

I recently read that China is buying dollars at a rate of about a billion dollars a day to keep their currency as cheap as the dollar. This (in addition to extremely exploitive labor practices) keeps their exports cheap. But this is causing them inflation domestically, especially as the the dollar has been weakening, making it harder to chase downward. I don’t really understand all of the economics of it, but I’m hoping this means they are approaching some limit in their ability to do this.

http://www.house.gov/hunter/news_prior_2006/PNTR.htm

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 9, 2000 CONTACT: Michael Harrison (202) 225-5672

HUNTER LEADS NATIONAL SECURITY COALITION AGAINST NORMALIZING TRADE RELATIONS WITH CHINA

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Duncan Hunter (CA-52) held a press conference today to discuss the national security implications of granting Permanent Normal Trade Relations (PNTR) to the Communist regime in China. China’s trade status with the U.S. is currently debated and voted on annually by Congress, thus allowing congressional review and comment on China’s activities regarding unfair trade practices, human rights and national security. Granting PNTR to China will remove this annual review and has been a major policy initiative of the Clinton Administration who advocates making China a “strategic partner” in global trade.

“Regardless of the administration’s trade objectives, the reality is that China prepares for war,” stated Hunter. “The Communist regime is producing long-range ballistic missiles, which are targeted at U.S. military bases and American cities. They have engaged in espionage activities in which U.S. military secrets were stolen and they have developed weapon systems that threaten the U.S. and its allies. Granting PNTR to China allows the Communist leadership to continue their military modernization efforts at the expense of America’s national security.”

Congressman Hunter presented unclassified reports from the Central Intelligence Agency and the Federal Bureau of Investigation describing China’s weapon proliferation activities and their efforts to gather science and technology information to perform political, military, and economic espionage. The technology China has acquired has not only been utilized to bolster its own military capabilities, but has been sold to several countries with proliferation concerns, such as Iran and Pakistan.

“Granting PNTR to China, and removing congressional review of the Communist regime’s activities despite their aggressive behavior towards the U.S. and its allies, can only be characterized as irresponsible and stands in direct conflict to efforts to protect our nation,” said Hunter.

Several Members of Congress joined Congressman Hunter at the press conference, including Representatives Joe Barton-TX, Frank Wolf-VA, John Hostettler-IN, Joel Hefley-CO, Bob Ney-OH, Charlie Norwood-GA, Dana Rohrabacher-CA, Neil Abercrombie-HI, and Roscoe Bartlett-MD. The House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on granting PNTR to China near the end of May.

The problem with Hunter's view, is that it is seen through the eyes of a citizen of a developed nation.

For poverty to be wiped out or significantly eliminated, the world (all countries representing 6.7 billion people) need to industrialize. China is doing that. Unfortunately, starting with a country the size of China raises all sorts of alarm bells.

The developed world only represents one billion people. The developing, 5.7 billion or so. No amount of charity from the developed world into the developing world (though, very noble indeed) can eradicate poverty. The developing world, must be allowed to fend for themselves. And the best way, is through increased globalization. The developed nations get cheap labor and in return, the developing nations (including China), has access to technology. It really is a win-win situation that will take the remainder of the 21st century to complete.

But it must be allowed to continue, through China, then India, then Africa, etc.
