I sadly didn't catch it, but apparently El Rushbo unloaded on Huck today.
Jim Geraghty has lots of the highlights here. (My favorite line: "I'm part of the Cape Girardeau-Middle America Axis.")
The bad news for Huck:
Raising the ire of Limbaugh is different than annoying elite conservatives. Rush may not live in Cape Girardeau anymore and he may hobnob with a different set, but his millions of listeners emphatically see him as one of them.
Among the ditto-heads are thousands here in Iowa getting their Rush fix from one of nine stations on which he airs in the state. Within this group is a large subset of GOP activists and come-hell-or-high-water caucus goers.
It's these Republican regulars -- the phone bankers, envelope stuffers, Lincoln Day Dinner casserole-bringers -- who will almost certainly have second thoughts if so respected (and there are few more) a conservative voice as Limbaugh is calling Huck's conservative credentials into question.
As I've written before, there remain a core group of undecideds or soft Huckabee supporters. These are not the folks who come out of the church, but out of the GOP county committee meeting. It's one thing for them to get negative information about Huck from a partial source (i.e. a Romney commercial or "drive-by" media member). It's a whole different story for Maha-Rushi to lower the boom.
The good news for Huck:
Rush is apparently going dark until January 3rd.
He’s wrong, Rush will be back on the 2nd but I’m sure the people who fill in for him will beat the Huck over the head too.
Listened to most of Rush`s attacks on the Huckster today.
To be fair, Rush could have made the same case, if not a better case against Romney and Rooty.
The bottom line is, Rush is gonna vote for whoever the GOP nominates. Period. IMO, that does conservatism no good. Rush should’ve been backing Fred all the way. Too late now.
All Rush said was running for President on your faith is not a winning strategy.
It's good for Rush to thin the herd and leave it to conservatives whether or not they want to continue supporting the Huckster.
Gotta give Rush credit for going that far.
But with all the liberalism of the Rooty-Romney-Huckster records, he could have done better. I heard many calls this week from FredHeads begging Rush to give his backing to Thompson. Rush could have had a profound impact on the primary results. Obviously, that won't be the case.
LOL You’re something else!
Rush should have been more a part of the solution, then adding to the overall problems associated with liberals like Rooty, Romney and the Huckster.
I listened to the show. He didn’t attack Huckabee, only scolded comments from the Huckcamp. He pointed out flaws in Huck that, unless you’re blind, desparate or stupid, you would see for yourself. (posting to everyone)
Rush should invite all the candidates on for two hours with the caveat of any question on any issue is allowed.
Rush needs to get back to work.
I think Rush has a policy of not endorsing anyone during the primaries. It seems he won’t break that rule, not even this time. I’m surprised he went so far as to almost endorse Fred - and today he went after Huckabee’s record as well. I think the trend of liberal candidates being in the top of the polls is bothering him as much as it’s bothering us. This is as far as I’ve seen him go to EVER say anything one way or the other about candidates so early. He might do more if it looks like someone that could destroy the party and the country is getting ahead of a conservative. Time will tell. I can’t imagine he will sit quietly and let another RINO be elected. It also puts him in a bad spot, having to decide whether to back the GOP or tell the truth. I imagine he had a hard time with Bush in office, like with the ‘no longer carrying their water’ comment.
No doubt about it. I respect Rush`s personal rule about endorsing candidates. Its understood, he has an audience that is not comprised of just conservatives.
Having said that, this time around its different.
Exposing liberals and moderates like Rooty, Romney and the Huckster is a huge issue. You can see it here on conservative FR. Fred's the run away choice for POTUS.
The Real Conservative
"When I am president, I will build a fence." Amnesty and illegal immigration are not healthy for the U.S. or Mexico. "We need to be a nation of high fences and wide gates." ..Fred Thompson
"My idea of Gun Control is a good, steady aim." ..Fred Thompson
"Saddle Me Up"
It was stupid for the Hucksters to attack Rush, and Bush.
I was listening. Rush wanted to unload, but the little angel on his left shoulder told him to just cool it and relax.
He went easy, listened to the Huckster caller and tried to explain that it is nothing personal. Huck is a nice guy, he means well, he has good intentions and is just trying to help people. And left it at that. Everyone else can fill in the blanks.
The innuendo was that this is the leftist blueprint...as long as your intentions are good, eg save the trees, whales that is all that matters.
I will too. Period! It is extremely counter productive to elect democrats to the Presidency. Just the Supreme Court appointments alone are worth crawling through glass to pull the republican lever.
ANY of our guys is worth voting for over the socialist, communist, race bating, class warfare, judicial activist, blame America first democrats.
I can't understand how anyone on FreeRepublic would argue otherwise.
