NASHUA, N.H.--Bombastic Fox News host Bill O'Reilly got into a confrontation with an Obama aide after O'Reilly started screaming at him as he tried to get Barack Obama's attention following a rally here.
The incident was triggered when O'Reilly--with a Fox News crew shooting--was screaming at Obama National Trip Director Marvin Nicholson "Move" so he could get Obama's attention, according to several eyewitnesses. "O'Reilly was yelling at him, yelling at his face," a photographer shooting the scene said.
O'Reilly grabbed Nicholson's arm, said "move" and shoved him, another eyewitness said. Nicholson, who is 6'8 said O"Reilly called him "low class."
Secret Service agents came after O'Reilly pushed Nicholson and the agents flanked O'Reily.
Obama had his back turned at this point and did not see any of this. O'Reilly yelled "sir" at Obama and Obama walked over, not aware of what happened and told him he had an overflow crowd to visit. According to the time code from a photographer shooting the two, Obama and O'Reilly talked about 12 seconds near 11:45 a.m. eastern time.
The situation took place near a basketball hoop in the gym at Nashua North High School where Obama just addressed a jammed rally.
Heh. :)
Taze him.
For once, I have to take Obama’s side.
A 6’4” guy pushing a 6’8” guy near a basketball hoop. What are the odds?
May I add, Bro?
OReilly will show it on TV and carefully, painstakingly demonstrate how he was right and how he won any debate.
OReilly doesn’t have a humble bone in his body.
If Obama doesn’t agree, then he’ll get lousy coverage from OReilly throughout the campaign. I hope they don’t settle.
:>)
oh those jammed ralleys.
I got really angry with BOR when I heard him on the phone with Jeri Thompson. He was a jerk.
That was awful, BOR was acting like he is the leader of the free world and everyone must bow to him.
Ugliness ensues when O’Reilly tries to touch Obama’s robe, surrounded by Roman soldiers, Obama arrives in cloud to impart 12 second blessing.
Didn’t think he could make me disrespect him more, but that little stunt with Jeri was a way for him to drain a little more out of the shallow man he is.
I hope they arrest him or something for this.
From NBC's Mark HudspethNot defending O'Reilly. But I'm imagining Nicholson shifting back and forth to intentionally block the cameraman's shot.
NASHUA, N.H. -- An aide to Barack Obama said talk-show host Bill O'Reilly shoved him several times at the rope line after a campaign event today.Marvin Nicholson, Obama's trip director, said the commentator from Fox News Channel pushed him and called him "low class" after Nicholson refused to get out of the way of his cameraman's shot.
Wait and see.
He probably wanted Obamas wifes number so he could talk dirty to her.
O’Reilly thinks to highly of himself.
BOR has galloping self-respect.
AP reports:
Obama staffer Marvin Nicholson, a personal aide always at Obama’s side during rope line handshakes, said O’Reilly yelled at him to get out of the way of his cameraman’s shot. Nicholson said O’Reilly came around the waist-high barricade separating Obama from well-wishers.
“Then he grabbed me with both of his arms and tried to push me out of the way,” Nicholson said after the campaign agreed to make him available to reporters.
O’Reilly, interviewed afterward by phone on Fox News, said he tried “to gently remove” Nicholson because he was standing in front of Fox’s camera.
“We’re sorry we had to have that little confrontation, but no one on this earth is going to block a shot on “The O’Reilly Factor.” It is not going to happen,” O’Reilly said.
The scene was hard to miss. O’Reilly is about 6-feet-5-inches tall. Nicholson is 6-feet-8-inches tall.
Didn’t O’Loud Mouth used to host “Inside Edition?”
Obama has Secret Service protection ? already ?
Has had it for some time now.
Orielly is an ass. So is Obamamamaramalamdingdong
I love it.
Hope he loses his baring false witness against FreeRepublic - Thompson persona non-grata show.
Yep.
With all due respect, O’Reilly has the highest rated show on cable. Obviously he is interesting if nothing else. Iy pays to be a pompous azz on TV!!
BTTT for more coverage.
I am pretty sure ALL presidential contenders get this protection.
Based on his confrontational phone call with Jeri Thompson yesterday, I expected to hear about him calling out Fred today, not getting in a shoving match with an Obama guy.
Bill is a little too full of his own inflated self importance these days. It's not becoming.
I thought the Secret Service protection didn’t kick in until an individual was actually chosen as his/her party’s nominee, unless there’s a threat against a given candidate? Were there threats against Obama?
Do all the other candidates have SS protection? That’s a helluva lotta money with so many out there in both parties. You’d have to have 2-3 shifts a day of SS protection? Do their families get protection? I do wonder at what point it stops.
All the more interesting in that IIRC the VP’s SS protection ends at noon on 1/20 after the new team is sworn in. POTUS/FLOTUS SS protection goes through life. Odd system.
I see it as his “Don’t you know who I am” moment
According to BOR that's exactly what happened. He admitted (on the 'phone to Brian Wilson) that he might have called Nicholson an SOB.
bor needs to cool down.
I agree, I didn't like that either. I also didn't like the way BOR tried to marginalize Rush on his show either when Rush criticized the Iowa results.
Famous moment at Nashua North High School:
http://www.molloysoundandvideo.com/articles.html
When Ronald Reagan uttered the famous line, “I am paying for this microphone, Mr. Green,” it was Bob Molloy’s microphone he was renting. That pivotal moment in the New Hampshire presidential primary campaign of 1980 is among the many memories Molloy has accumulated in his 24 years as president of Molloy Sound and Video Contractors in Manchester.
“I wasn’t going to turn off the microphone,” he said, despite the order of debate moderator
Jon Breen (not “Green”), then the editor of the Nashua Telegraph. “For one thing, I wouldn’t have been that rude to a guest in our auditorium. And two, he was, in fact, paying for the microphone.”
Then, as now, there was a multi-candidate race among Republicans in the New Hampshire primary. Then, as now, two of them appeared to be in a tight race for the top spot, with the rest of the pack far behind in the polls. A few days before the primary, Reagan, the hero of the party’s conservative ranks, and George Bush, winner of the Iowa caucus, were scheduled to meet in a one-on-one debate sponsored by the Nashua Telegraph. When the Federal Elections Commission ruled the newspaper couldn’t sponsor the debate without including the other candidates, the Reagan campaign offered to pay for the event.
John Connolly was campaigning in South Carolina, but candidates Bob Dole, Phil Crane, Howard Baker and John Anderson showed up on stage at Nashua High School, claiming the right to participate in the event. Reagan went to the mike and began to argue for their inclusion when the moderator ruled him out of order. When Reagan continued speaking, Breen instructed Molloy to turn off the microphone.
“It was total chaos,” said Molloy, with Reagan continuing to talk and people in the audience shouting their opinions of Breen’s effort to silence the former California governor. Eventually, order was restored, the other candidates left, and the two-way debate took place. But the confrontation over the microphone became the big news story.
Yes but not knappy headed.
Isn’t Nicholson the butt-nugget that used to fetch PB&J sandwiches for sKerry?
Not to defend BOR but this was a schoolyard stunt by Osama Obama’s guy. He was purposfully stepping in front of the camera and ignoring requests to slide over. He knew exactally what he was doing and provoked a confontation probably just to get a mention on Oblertool’s show.
It would only benefit Obama to get airtime on BOR because he needs to get to the 55+ demographic, who favors established candidates like Hillary and McCain.
from your link
“”Bob Dole was a very funny guy,” he said, recalling witticisms he would hear from the former Sentate majority leader and 1996 Republican nominee. “I think if (his advisers) let him be himself instead of handling him, he would have been better off.”
This has been so widely observed (I agree with it) that it is puzzling to me how a career pol like Dole couldn’t see it for himself.
Far as I remember from news reports earlier this year, he was granted SS protection in lieu of a threat. Spose it is out there for research.
He called on-line bloggers a bunch of idiots.
The more he gets caught up in his self importance the more despicable he comes.
He just totally dismissed Fred Thompson even though Thompson's support is in states that primaries are later on in the process.
Fred do not get out we need you to stay in as I believe you will be the best man standing when the smoke clears.
Take that Bill O’Really.
