What if Obama Represent The Last Gasp of the Past?

Richard Fernandez of Belmont Club raises an interesting point. Just as the academic fads that rose to spectacular heights during the end of the last decade are now in decline, it could very well be that the kind of faddish Marxism/radicalism represented by Bill Ayers and Barack Obama are the peak of the wave that is already receding.

The conventional wisdom is that Obama is the man of the future. It’s argued that he represents what the younger generation desires. But what if, on the contrary, Obama actually represented the last gasp of the past? When Thomas Sowell writes about Obama’s “worn-out economic ideas” can he really be serious? Michael Ledeen argues in dead earnest that BHO’s ideas are mostly obsolete.

“Paradoxically, Obama is in some ways more a victim of age than McCain, although of a different sort. Obama is an advocate of ideas that have aged to the point of dementia. He’s an old-fashioned radical, and the leftist ideas that inspire him are no longer relevant to our world. As Hegel used to say, the world changes, and the ideas that once described reality, and could be used to effectively change it when necessary, no longer apply to the changed world. Obama’s political ideas have aged, which is why they have no policy saliency. They’re just words, fossilized remnants of a civilization that no longer exists.”

It may be objected that simply because ideas are old they are not necessarily in decline. Perhaps

There is something very old fashioned about a machine politician from Chicago who associates with 1960s bombers, black racists preachers and convicted swindlers and who hobnobs with San Francisco billionaires and Hollywood stars while speaking of disdain about the working class.

If we hadn’t made such terrifying strides to the left over the course of the last 20 years, I may wonder.

But I think it’s more like the final rush over the goal line. They are so ahead in points and have so much energy because they have been the ones launching effortless attacks while our side is exhausted from fighting every attack, they figure, what the heck, let’s just run it in with everything we’ve got.

There is a lot of truth to this.

I really wish conservatives would reverse the language of politics.

Conservatives are progressives. They have new ideas.

The Left is old school marxism. They are trying to conserve the Leftist philosphies that took over the democratic party when they ousted LBJ during the vietnam war.

I’ve been telling my family this for months. He’s a deciple of the 60s radicals, a bunch that’s already in decline. They went to college to avoid Vietnam, stayed in academia or went into government or foundations or “research” or “community activism.” Most 60s hippie/marxists grew out of it but some landed in a cocoon that kind of pickled them in their radicalism. Yes, Obama is the end of that line. This is their peak, their last shot at power. Hopefully, America and Western Civilization will dodge this bullet and finally be finished with these twitts.

“What if Obama Represent The Last Gasp of the Past?”

You mean just like Adolf Hitler?

That’s cold comfort.

So if the ‘undecided voter ‘ realized that Hussein has energetic support of CPUSA, Socialist Party and every wanna-be Marxist and Stalanist, would it make a difference? The resurgence of Che’ Gueverra clothing is rather telling.

That is a very good question. I have been amazed at how much ignorance there is of what evil socialism has wrought in the world. Someone very close to me recently said to me ‘isn't socialism just about making sure things are just a little bit more fair?’. It's amazing to me how people have gotten to the point at which they think taking what someone has worked for and giving it away, often just to ensure votes, is ‘fair’. I wonder how many college students would think it ‘fair’ if their tuition money was taken from them and sent to the third world or to the UN. How would they feel if their cell phones were taxed at a high rate and this money sent to inner city Detroit?

Sadly the lefties in academia have been teaching America's youth for the last 20 years that America is an oppressor nation, that we are greedy consumers of more than our share. They don't even know of the evils of communism.I hope it's not too late to reverse things, but am not sure.

The problem is that the student and the eventual taxpayer need to be taught two things:

1. The inherent failure of economic success under socialism and communism and the millions of lives lost due to the oppression of communism are historical fact.

2. All examples related to taxation must be concrete. In others words a taxation rate of 50% means that you must work for Jannuary 1 through June 30th until for the federal government. Or it means that you are required to work for the first 2-1/2 days per week before you ae allowed to keep your earnings.
