Iraq before George Bush, After George Bush (graphic photos at link)

One of the most brutal totalitarian dictatorships in modern history defeated by the United States of America

Saddam Hussein is reponsible for the deaths of an estimated 1.5 million people, by some accounts as many as 2 million.

Many were brutally tortured in his prisons. Some 200,000 Iraqi Kurds were gassed by Saddam's Weapons of Mass Destruction.

Another 60,000 Kuwaitis were tortured, raped and killed during the year-long occupation by Saddam's forces.

An estimated 500,000 southern Iraqis, mostly Shi'ite were gunned down, and hung in the streets after the first Persian Gulf War.

Now today, as the BBC reports, Post-Saddam, the Iraqis are holding peaceful elections nationwide.

"Iraqis are electing new provincial councils in the first nationwide vote in four years, with the Sunni minority expected to turn out in strength. After a slow start, correspondents said voting was brisk, including among Sunni Muslims, who largely boycotted the last elections."

5 years after the US Liberation of 35 million Iraqis

Ed Morrisey, HotAir.com Editor,

in "Iraqis go to the polls," comments:

"a festive mood has broken out in Iraq... This is what victory looks like."

~~~~~~~~~~
All thanks to former United States President George W. Bush.
"Right you are Chuck.
George Bush can sleep well at night, as he lays his head on his pillow in Crawford, knowing that he is responsible for the liberation of 60 million people from brutal totalitarian repression in Iraq and Afghanistan.
His foreign policy achievements are nothing short of Churchillian."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What an incredible day. All Bush's fault! And our incredibly courageous and intrepid military and intel agencies, civilian employees, government contractors and sane Iraqis!

You got that right. I remember the shame of the Carter years when the rest of the world ridiculed us. I fear these next four years will be much, much worse.

Thank you for the Ping, Starwise! Our President will Go Down in the History Books as a Great and Good Man, in Spite of the Efforts of the Lamestream Media to Turn as Many People as Possible Against him. God Bless our President Always!

The Bush-haters keep inflating the number of people who have died in Iraq since the overthrow of Saddam--an article posted here earlier today put the number at 1 million. I'm not sure what the correct figure is but I would guess somewhere in the 50,000 to 100,000 range--nearly all victims of the bad guys (Baathists, Al Qaeda in Iraq, other insurgents), but the media pretends Bush is personally to blame for them all.

If Saddam were still in power, the number of his victims in the past 6 years may have been higher, but of course there is no way to prove that, any more than to ascertain how many lives were saved by the use of the atomic bombs in 1945.
