Powerful PR Firm Helps Campaign to Get Glenn Beck Off The Air

As NewsBuster Matthew Vadum reported Wednesday, a race-baiting group named Color Of Change -- co-founded by President Obama's "Green Jobs Czar" Van Jones -- has launched a campaign to get companies to stop advertising on Glenn Beck's television program.

Recent press releases from COC concerning Beck have listed as the contact "Brandon Hatler -- Sunshine, Sachs & Associates."

As Variety reported in May 2007, SSA is a powerful New York-based public relations firm with quite an impressive list of clients:

Current clients include Ben Affleck, Jon Bon Jovi, Kelly Clarkson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jimmy Fallon, the Farrelly brothers, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, John Mayer, Bette Midler, Michael Moore, Tyler Perry, Barbra Streisand and Michelle Wie.

On Monday, COC published the following press release concerning Beck listing Hatler as contact: Story Continues Below Ad ↓

"We applaud GEICO and all of the other companies who have stepped forward to pull their ads from Glenn Beck," said James Rucker, executive director of ColorOfChange.org. "Beck's rhetoric is dangerous to the fabric of our democracy, and we are heartened that so many big companies feel the same way. We won't stop here -- we're going to continue our fight to see that as many of Beck's advertisers pull their support as possible."

Two weeks ago, ColorOfChange.org called on its 600,000-plus members to sign a petition urging companies who advertise on Glenn Beck to cut off their advertising support of his work. More than 75,000 members responded to the call by signing a petition directed at advertisers.

As RBO uncovered last week, SSA also represents Van Jones's Green for All, "a national organization working to build an inclusive green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty."

When you add it all up, a current member of the Obama administration is co-founder of a group trying to get a conservative talker off the air, and is being assisted by a powerful New York PR firm.

And America's so-called journalists couldn't care less.

Thanx. I obviously didn’t read completely through the thread.

I wonder if you know if these ads are purposely purchased for a specific time slot/show, or are they simply *prime time* ads, capable of being played in any time slot during those hours?

I don’t know if it has changed or not, but it used to be for a specific time slot.

Response I got from Geico when I told them I was going to cancel our policy......

If the inflammatory nature of the comments on a program overshadows our message and causes GEICO to be drawn into a national debate, we are likely to reconsider where we place our marketing messages, which is what we did.

GEICO delivers very important messages through its major marketing campaigns: we’re saving customers’ dollars, we’re easy to do business with, we’re looking out for our policyholders. That’s what we hope the public hears and sees and focuses on.

As a company, we do not take positions on controversial issues.

As an advertiser, while a national debate on issues can be healthy and appropriate, we don’t see ourselves in the role of taking part in those debates.

Our business is auto insurance. We want to bring people value and we attempt to reach large audiences with that message.

It is of little benefit to us if a program gets so much attention that our message is drowned out.

Thank you for this. I just wrote this email to Progressive Insurance, my current car insurance policy holder.

Dear Progressive Insurance:

I have been a customer of yours for many years and for the most part I have been a satisfied client. However, you deeply offend me by inserting yourself into a political matter, kowtowing to what I believe to be a radical organization and pulling advertising support for a TV program I happen to support and enjoy very much: Glenn Beck on the Fox Channel.

I don't know how many of these patent signers you caved into are your customers and, frankly, I don't care. But here's a certainty: consider me a lost customer. As of tomorrow, I will be looking for a new insurance company who doesn't happen to be openly in bed with the radical wing of the Democratic party.

I am sure you do not care because you have armies of prospective customers who share your political views waiting in the wings to hand over more than $XXXX/year dutifully and diligently. Good, the best of luck to you then.

Respectfully,

John Noh
OK, so who are some "friendlies" in terms of insurance carriers?

Once again, the liberals reveal their true colors and how they demonstrate that tolerance for which they’re so well known.

I use Farmers Insurance.

BTW, I am going to thank these companies for not subjecting me to their mindless ads, as Beck is the only Fox program I watch. Good riddance (I do watch the others, but not as far as they are concerned)

The “O” just appointed a new black guy to FCC, whose goal is not UNFAIR fairness doctrine, but something much worse called “diversity”, that makes radio stations pay the equivalant of one year’s budget for say Rush, that they give to opposing (liberals) to counter. NO station can afford that, and they know it will force them all off the radio. Beck spoke of it this past week.
