The United States Constitution guarantees us numerous rights and liberties, but the ones most essential and inalienable are those of life, liberty, and property. As I am writing this entry, there are scores of constitution maggots in DC working to erode those very rights which we hold dear. The finest examples of this are the two pieces of legislation currently awaiting a vote; cap-and-trade and health care.
These two pieces of legislation are heinous by design. Health care, simply put, gives the government command of every aspect of an individuals life, effectively turning citizens into subjects. Once the government owns an individuals health, the government owns the individual and every right guaranteed under the first 8 amendments of the US Constitution can be circumnavigated on the bases of public health and cost to the government. In fact, cap-and-trade can be implemented under the health-care bill as a means to provide a healthier, and thereby more cost effective, environment for the population. The health care bill decimates the constitution and our personal freedoms denying us of liberty and, in some cases, life.
Cap-and-Trade threatens to deny many of us property. Woven in the fabric of the bill is an energy policy defunct of logic. It allocates billions of dollars for, and prioritizes alternative energy sources whose technologies do not work, and which take enormous amounts of land in order to be even remotely viable.

I’d welcome Oklahome but I’ll pass on the Chocolate City.
Blood?
“Blood”
Some things just don’t change, do they.
If Texas ever actually does something like that, then I would imagine other states to follow too.
If they are passed.
“If the USA goes Communist I will join him.”
You’re a little late there Screamin’. We’re just living under the illusion that this is a republic.
“TEX-LA-OK would be an energy rich nation.”
Can Colorado join? We’ve got this natural gas and oil-shale thingy going up here.
I would go to Texas as well if this happens. Even though I would be characterized as an illegal alien, I would work to earn my keep including joining the state’s national guard.
But don’t forget to consider how much money is being taken FROM Texas by the feds in many forms such as income taxes, corporate taxes and many others that would no longer be leaving Texas. That money could be put to much better use if it were to stay in Texas. Also Texas would no longer be hobbled by federal regulations on offshore drilling etc.
My ancestors immigrated to the Republic of Texas in 1840 from Prussia. Prior to Prussia they fled France because of religious persecution.
Were they Jewish, Heugonot, or Menonite?
Most of my ancestors came to Texas during Reconstruction after the last Civil War. Some of my relatives were here during the Republic.
My family has farmed in Haskell county for over 110 years.
Texas has never had a history of religious intolerance, but it has a history of resisting oppression.
I can’t imagine the Feds ever allowing any state to secede, but even if we did, the cities are infested with huge numbers of social parasites — what would we do about them?

Be productive or be gone. Welfare to workfare.
Do acknowledge there are genuine needs for a temporary societal 'safety net'. But since the "Great Society' era, this safety net has evolved into a permanent entitlement hammock.
Societal parasites should be given a fair chance...to contribute to Texas's welfare, security, productivety. Notwithstanding that option..also have the option for a one-way transit to the US Obama state of their choosing.
I meant to ping you to #34
Huegonots! Part of the family went to Colorado which is where I am currently stationed. We’ve had a long line of military members dating from prior to the War Between the States. Or as I recently learned, the War of Northern Aggression.
I have no know Huguenot or French ancestry, but have been a history student most of my life.
There was an interesting history discussion about the French Huguenots posted on FR some months ago that you might enjoy reading. I posted several links that I found very interesting reads.

I know it sounds ridiculous but "Free men do not have to ask permission".
Maybe not but are we really ‘free men’ ......... My guess is for Texas to even attempt to succeed in today's environment the people of the state would not vote in favor. JMO.
I am not for secession, but if put to a vote, I expect the percentage for it would astound you.
I have heard numbers between 25-55% kicked around. If Cap & Trade and the Obama Care pass, I would say it would pass in a Refferendum.
Texas will never be subjugated. Will not happen. Texas Nationalism is not dead, by a long shot.
No sane person wants War, but it sometimes is necessary and happens. You can never predict the outcome of things like this.
